Why is my dog lethargic and has diarrhea after his DA2PP shot?

It could be a reaction. A dog can have vaccine reactions at any point in life. Reactions usually occur within 24-48 hours after vaccination. For the diarrhea, withhold food for 12-24 hours then feed a bland diet (plain, boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice) in small, frequent amounts until the stool is normal. Transition slowly to the regular diet. If t doesn't resolve, see your veterinarian. In the future, separate the vaccines to determine which vaccine caused the reaction. Your veterinarian can pretreat with an antihistamine to avoid reactions. Call your veterinarian and report the possible reaction.

Puppy's getting sleepy after their shots is a normal reaction to vaccinations. They can also have a low grade fever and/or one bout of vomiting/diarrhea normally that are no cause for concern. The concern arises when your pet is severely lethargic, not eating, non-responsive, pale gums, or excessive vomiting/diarrhea. If you notice any of these symptoms then it is best to take puppy to a vet asap for immediate care, because a mores serious vaccine reaction is occurring at that point.

If Kane just recently had his first series of vaccinations, this could be an explanation as to why he is not moving around as much. If he is still eating and fine otherwise, I would keep an eye on him for another 24 hours. I'm so sorry that Buddy isn't feeling well after his vaccinations. I would certainly recommend calling your vet to discuss his side effects and decide if he needs to be seen or not. When we give a vaccination, the stimulation of the immune system can cause an inflammatory process that can result in some joint or muscle soreness. Some dogs will also be lethargic and can run a fever. These side effects will generally resolve within 1-2 days, but sometimes we will recommend giving medications to make the pets feel better in the meantime, so I would recommend discussing it with your vet. For the future, I generally will only give one vaccination at a time to dogs that have the potential to have vaccine reactions to minimize the potential for this to happen again. Good luck! I am So sorry to hear that Pacer is having such a hard time after his vaccines. It sounds like relatively normal reaction, however, it seems as though he is sensitive to this vaccine. For this reason I would call the veterinarian who gave him the vaccine to discuss this fact. It will then be recorded in his medical records and precautions taken when it is given again. You can try a cool compress over the painful area.

I am concerned that Pepper is not drinking water and could become dehydrated. For this reason, I recommend you have Pepper evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment.
