My dog has a leg scrape. What should I do? Is Vetericyn safe to use?

Hello. All I can see is a small area of dermatitis on the leg. It can have many causes, but you can treat this with an over the counter skin antiseptic called Hibiclens. Gently scrub the skin twice a day & dab dry ( do not rinse ). Do this for about 2-3 weeks & the lesion should clear up. But since I cannot make any kind of actual diagnosis, if the skin becomes more irritated or the area does not seem to be healing, please consider seeing your veterinarian. Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. From your pictures the affected area you are concerned about looks similar to a small lick granuloma (sore from licking). As this is not an emergency it is ok to wait for your vet to look at this. If it looks as if it is swelling or discharging I would get him in sooner. However, it would still be a good idea to have him evaluated by a veterinarian to look at it more closely in case it is deeper than what it looks like. Also, these can be painful and can get infected so your veterinarian could potentially start antibiotics and pain control medications. If superficial, these wounds tend to respond well to therapy and heal relatively quickly. Good luck and have a good night!

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. Yes, it looks just like some sort of wound from an injury. I would not be overly worried about it at this stage. Poor Scrappy. It is difficult to see details as the picture is blurry. It almost looks like a mass in the picture. I would make she isn't licking or scratching it. I would put a cone collar on her to prevent the licking if needed. I would also have your vet take a look at it. With how red and ulcerated it is, she likely needs some antibiotics and may need to have it removed. I hope this helps.
