Dog's leg has a growing spot, fever, favoring it. What should I do?

The swelling appears to be near the joint, but it's difficult to tell from these pictures. Swollen joints on two sides can indicate an infection, so it is best to have her seen by a vet as soon as possible. It's not an emergency unless she is also not eating, drinking, or acting normal. Otherwise, it would be best to see if she could be seen sooner by your regular daytime vet. Without knowing exactly what it is causing this, it's best to leave it alone until the vet can have a look. It will not resolve without a long course of oral antibiotics. Now, that being said, this could be a primary issue or a secondary issue - I cannot tell you without examining her myself and doing some testing. We would recommend that you have Roxy physically examined by a veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER. She may need x-rays of the paw/leg and medications. Those are things we cannot do online, but can be done in a brick and mortar clinic. In the meantime, restrict activity to just leash walks for elimination.

Please have Ann examined by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER today. That wound will likely need to be explored and debrided surgically. This will require anesthesia. A culture/sensitivity and biopsy of the area should be submitted as well. The C&S will identify any bacteria as well as the best antibiotic to use in treatment. Even though she was on antibiotics, if the bacteria was not susceptible to them, they would be ineffective. A biopsy will rule out neoplasia (cancer). Either can cause delayed healing or non-healing. If infection gets into the bone, it could turn into a life threatening condition. Place an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent licking until she sees a doctor.

Because it is getting worse quickly, make an appointment tomorrow to get your Vet to look at ti. They will likely prescribe antibiotics, something for the itch, and maybe a topical. Good luck!

I would have to see her in person in order to make a diagnosis, so I recommend you take her into the vet. The vet can diagnose what is causing her skin issue and can treat her. Poor Scrappy. It is difficult to see details as the picture is blurry. It almost looks like a mass in the picture. I would make she isn't licking or scratching it. I would put a cone collar on her to prevent the licking if needed. I would also have your vet take a look at it. With how red and ulcerated it is, she likely needs some antibiotics and may need to have it removed. I hope this helps.
