My dog kicks her leg and has a fever after recovering from parvo?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sometimes dogs feel warm and do not have a fever so I would not necessarily think that she has a fever because her tongue is warm. If you wanted to be sure, you can check her temperature rectally and if in between 99.5 and 102.5 then she would be ok. I do recommend though that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for the foot issue. This can sometimes occur from trauma to the leg and it would be worth knowing if there is any evidence of a fracture or something of that nature. Your veterinarian could perform radiographs if deemed necessary on examination. Good luck and have a great day!

That is not normal for pups recovering from parvovirus. I recommend an evaluation with a rehab veterinarian if there is one in your area. They can give you exercises to strengthen the rear legs and determine if it’s from a back or leg problem or just weakness from the diesease. The sooner you get him up and standing and walking the better since the muscles and ligaments need weight bearing and movements to get stronger. It is very unusual for a three-year old dog to get infected with parvo. Did your veterinarian make this diagnosis? If she indeed had parvo she should not have diarrhea anymore and the vomiting should have stopped. Shaking is a sign of pain, usually. Please do not give her aspirin as this could cause her to bleed again, or cause ulcers. Please take her to the vet for a recheck to make sure she is indeed getting better.

A warm nose and warm ears are very nonspecific findings and I would pay more attention to his overall attitude, behavior and appetite. (A "dry nose" indicating that a dog is sick is also a myth). It sounds like he is playful, and eating and drinking well, so I would not be concerned. As long as he continues to act normally and have normal urination and bowel movements, and no vomiting, it sounds like he is well on the road to recovery! I hope this is helpful!

Trembling is a general sign and can be seen with several things that go from just being cold or nervous to being an indication of pain or discomfort. If Chuchay is otherwise fine, then it would be ok to monitor her for now. However, if at any point she appears to be in discomfort or stops eating or showing any other concerning symptoms, it may be best to have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Hi and thanks for your post. Fever along with limping or non weight baring on a limb is concerning. She may have a joint infection or a systemic illness such as lyme disease or another tick borne illness. Katana should see a vet for this issue has an x-ray will need to be taken of her joint, blood work done, and antibiotics administered. If going to a vet is not an option due to finances, there is not a lot that can be done as far as home remedies for this especially if the cause is not yet known. Putting an ice pack covered in a towel over the leg or joint for 20 mins 3 times daily can help decrease the swelling initially. Seeing your vet would be the best option for Katana. However, this could also be a fracture which can be very painful. It seems like she is in pain so it would be best to have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment.
