My dog has hyperplasia. What specific food changes should I make?

There isn’t much else to do for vaginal hyperplasia other than spaying. Make sure the exposed hyperplastic tissue isn’t becoming too dry an irritated - you could use a small amount of water based lubricant if necessary. If GiGi is licking she may need to wear an e-collar.

It is possible she is getting too much food for her size/metabolism. Sometimes we can help our pets lose weight by decreasing the amount of food we are giving. Other times we may need to switch to a prescription weight loss food for a little more help. In some instances there can be an underlying disease, such as hypothyroidism, that can be making it difficult for our pet to lose weight no matter what we do!!! For this reason, it is best to make an appointment with your vet to examine your dog. They can help determine the amount of weight she needs to lose, and help determine the correct amount to feed or recommend a diet change. They may recommend bloodwork to be sure there isn't an underlying cause for her inability to lose weight. Best of luck to you and Hyper!

A hydrolyzed therapeutic diet might be the best option for a dog with food allergies and potential heart disease. Hills makes a version called z/d, Royal Canin makes HP and Purina makes HA. Your vet would know more details however and might make a different recommendation based on Champ’s history so you should contact them before changing the diet.

A biopsy of the pad tissue should be taken and sent for laboratory analysis. In the meantime, you should ask your vet about doing a trial course of steroids (prednisone) - only after the biopsy has been performed. While awaiting results of the testing, you can soak her feet in dilute Betadine solution (1:25 dilution) for 5 minutes three times per day. I'm not really sure what you mean by a "meal plan". If you could post again and clarify what you are looking for (a new food, a supplement for her, how many times a day you feed her, how much food to feed her) - I'm not really sure what you are wanting to know. Yes you certainly can get him on the Urinary and Hydrolzyed protein diet; however, this food does not help for any underlying liver condition. There currently is no a combo diet that will help with both urinary and liver problems. You may have to discuss with your vet and determine which disease you will focus on with diet and which can be treated with alternative treatments (i.e. Denamarin liver protectant). Yes a hydrolyzed diet such as royal canin hypoallergenic can be very helpful. In cases which respond well to treatment a near normal quality and life expectancy can exist. Some cases are less responsive and can struggle to maintain health and fitness despite immunosuppressive and chemotherapy medications but it would take 10-12 weeks before any assessment could be made on her progress

Hello. This is probably benign mammary hyperplasia, but you do want to have this looked at, especially if she has been spayed. If she has not been spayed & has never been with a male dog, then this could be related to a false pregnancy. Also, has she been in contact with anyone who is on hormone replacement therapy? Sometimes, this can rub off on a pet & cause mammary enlargement. If no outside cause can be found, then have her spayed if that has not already been done, & submit a biopsy to see exactly what is going on with the tissue.
