My dog was hit by a car. What are these growing lumps on her belly?

I am very sorry to hear about your dog. What you are describing sounds like most likely a tumor. There are many different types of tumors. Two of the more common we see in this area are lipomas, which are fatty tumors and feel soft/squishy, and sarcomas which are firmer feeling. Unfortunately it sounds like this is large and causing her problems. She needs a visit to the vet's office to examine the tumor and see if it can be surgically removed. They may want to take an x-ray and may want to do what is called a "fine needle aspirate" to collect cells to try to identify the type of tumor before surgery.

Unfortunately, Spot really should be seen by a veterinarian. If it is an abscess, that is one serious infection that needs to be addressed. It could also be a severe hernia. The swelling may be caused by loops of bowel that have slipped through a defect in the muscle wall. This will require surgery to repair. If left untreated, it is possible the bowel could become twisted or strangulated which would be an emergency and potentially life threatening.

This looks like it could be a cyst or a skin tumor like a hemangioma. I find that once a skin growth ruptures it tends to happen again, so I would definitely recommend making an appointment to see your veterinarian. They will probably recommend surgically removing this growth.

It does appear that it could it be a hernia. You would need a physical exam by your veterinarian for confirmation. As long as Nala is behaving normally otherwise, there is likely no cause for concern. Monitor for lethargy, vomiting, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. If necessary, have a family neighbor or friend take Nala to the vet. You may even be able drive up and have the technician remove her from the car. You can wait outside while the exam is done and then they can return her to you and discuss findings and any treatments.

Oh my! This sounds like she may have a diaphragmatic hernia due to trauma from the car. A diaphragmatic hernia is common to occur after a hit by car. The stomach and abdominal organs are pushed up into the chest cavity, causing breathing difficulty in many cases and problems keeping down food. Other possible causes of her continuous vomiting is stomach bloat and an intestinal blockage (intussusception). These are all quite serious conditions that are considered medical emergencies. There isn't much you can do for any of these possible scenarios at home unfortunately. She needs radiographs done right away to diagnose the problem and then proper treatment. This lump/growth should be ideally examined by your veterinarian to have a definitive diagnosis. Your vet will examine it and possibly perform with an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy. I am very sorry to hear about your labrador. It sounds like he needs to have diagnostic imaging (x-rays or preferably ultrasound) performed to examine the abdominal cavity, or if that is not an option, an exploratory surgery may be needed. I would be concerned about a large abscess or a tumor that had a cystic or abscessed area, but truly to determine the cause and whether or not treatment will be helpful further investigation is needed.
