My dog has a head wound. Is it related to her sinus infection?

I am not sure that the sneezing and the lump are related. I recommend to have her checked out by her veterinarian to examine that lump. Lumps can appear for variety of reasons and it could be unrelated to her stay. You may ask the sitter if there was any hard play or trauma or anything else that might cause a lump to form due to injury. If the doctor is more suspicious of a tumor, you will need to have the mass aspirated in order to know if it is something benign or malignant. The sneezing could be many things including mild infection or allergies. Have the vet take a good listen to her lungs as well as palpate her trachea. Hello there! Considering her age and breed, the lump on Skye's head is most likely a benign mass called a histiocytoma. Only a vet can diagnose this for sure, but this is the most likely cause. The mass on the leg may also be a histiocytoma, as the head, face, legs, and feet are the most common locations for them to grow, and if a dog has one, they are more likely to have multiple over their lifetime. A histiocytoma can be unsightly, but they usually go away on their own after a few months. Some owners elect to have them removed if they keep getting scratched or infected, and this is usually curative at that location. There are other conditions that could cause lumps like these (though they are less likely, like a viral infection or cancer), and a visit to your vet will help to determine what that might be. The vet will give Skye a full physical exam, and they will likely take a small sample of cells from within the lumps with a small needle - a procedure called a fine needle aspirate, or FNA. This may not give a definitive diagnosis, but it can be helpful in ruling out more worrisome issues. It can also help the vet decide if the lumps need to come off for further testing, but I'd be surprised if this was the case. I think these two problems are not related. The nose is inflamed indeed. It could be from an allergy, so it is good that he is having treatment for that. The lump on the nose looks like a hair follicle infection or a small growth. If it is local infection, it should disappear in the next 5-7 days without treatment. If not, you should take Tyson back to your vet so they can check him over.

However, it is possible that there is an underlying cancer which is why this keeps occurring. I think this is less likely to be true and this is more likely just an abscess that needs to be treated. If this has improved on the therapies that Kronk is on at this time then I would follow the course. If he is not improving, they should consider submitting the wound fluid to a laboratory to check for the possibility of a resistant infection that may need to be treated with a different antibiotic. Otherwise, they should sample that tissue inside and submit to a laboratory for histopathology to check for the possibility of underlying cancer. The facts that there are lesions in different places makes allergies possible. I am hoping for a speedy recovery!

This lesion looks more like a wound or perhaps a bite that became infected. I would clean the area with a mild soap, apply a topical antibiotic ointment, and if she is rubbing/scratching put an e-collar on her and make an appointment for her vet to check the area out. It may need to be flushed or debriefed, and she may need antibiotics. Until it is healed, limit her time outdoors alone as wounds like this in summer can attract flies and lead to maggots.

I am sorry that she is having this problem and I am sure you are worried. Nasal discharge with blood can be a sign of infection, cancer, or possibly a bleeding disorder. If the antibiotics do no resolve the problem then your vet will need to do some diagnostic tests to help determine the cause. Your vet can run blood-work, take nasal x-rays, and/or rhinoscopy to see if a diagnosis can be found. I wish I could tell you the cause but am not able to without more information from tests. The bump on the roof of her mouth may not be related but you should monitor it and have your vet take a look at it. Try not to worry as it could definitely just be an infection.

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria or fungal infection). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking (if any).
