My dog shook his head, drooled, and ate grass. Is he having a seizure?

It's possible that this could have been a type of a seizure, but there are other conditions and behaviors that could mimic a seizure. If this continues, or Bruno is otherwise acting abnormal, then it's best to have him examined by a vet as soon as possible. If Bruno is otherwise acting normal, then there is no need to rush him to the vet, but it would be good to have a vet evaluate him sometime in the near future, because the vet may detect an underlying problem (i.e. heart or neurologic disease) causing this convulsing. It would also be very helpful for you to record a video of him doing the convulsing behavior if you happen to see it again. I hope that helps and all is well with Bruno.

Sometimes dogs shake their head if their ears are itchy or infected. If you are worried that it may be a seizure, try to video an event so your veterinarian can see exactly what is happening. I would give it a few minutes to see if it settles down. But if he continues to drool or cough Lou may have a foreign body stuck in the back of his mouth or his throat, and I would recommend a veterinary visit today. If it seems to go away then it may have just been transient, or a small piece of grass or something he's able to dislodge on his own. Some dogs will have focal seizures known as 'chewing gum' seizures where the mouth will tremble or they will make chewing motions. Usually dogs will act a little disoriented after a seizure like this, but some dogs don't. If you think he may be having seizures you should see a veterinarian right away. It might be helpful to video an episode to show your vet. Of course it's possible that this is just a behavioral tic too, but it's better to be safe and have a veterinarian examine Mega to make sure.

Hi. This sounds like it could be serious. I would worry about either some seizure activity, some severe nausea, dizziness, or even ears. Lots of possibilities. But this needs to be addressed quickly. Hello, seizures are very scary, & in an elderly dog like Harley, it could mean some serious inflammation in the brain. Since he is so weak, I would really encourage you to take him to an emergency clinic for treatment. He may need some anti-inflammatory medication or anti-nausea medication to help with the drooling. It sounds like to me that Charlie may have severe dental problems causing this excessive drooling and not wanting to eat. He could also have a GI illness causing his symptoms. I would take Charlie into a vet first thing in the morning for an exam.
