Harness cut puppy's muscle. Can she heal or should I put her down?

This sounds like a bad situation. Yes euthanasia may be the most human option, however, if that is not an option for you than it is VERY important to involve a veterinarian so that the puppy can be protected with antibiotics and something to help with pain. Your veterinarian may advise a surgery to remove any bony remnants if the traumatic amputation left behind parts that could lead to pain and arthritis. Please, please take her in for some antibiotics at the very least. She could develop a life threatening infection.

This is definitely something that can be fixed by a veterinarian, so I wouldn't have her put down based on this gash alone. There may be other problems though, so it's best to have a vet evaluate her soon. The vet can give you an idea of how bad her injuries are and what it would take to get her back to normal. It's best not to wait longer than 24hours to have her seen by a vet, because this gash is easier to fix the sooner it's seen after the injury. Also, there may be other, life-threatening injuries that can be fixed. I hope that helps and Briar Rose gets better soon.

You should take Murphy to your local vets for an appointment as this wound should be clipped, cleaned, flushed and potentially stitched up under sedation. It would take a very long time to heal if the wound was treated with antibiotics only. The symptoms of infection usually develops in the first 24hrs and include fever, discharge, swelling and pain around the wound.

Hello, sorry to hear about Snoop. It looks like it may need antibiotics and potentially surgery to repair that wound. Especially because it appears as though it has been ongoing for some time. You should have him evaluated by a veterinarian so that the wound can be clipped cleaned and repaired if necessary and then so that he can have antibiotics prescribed to him. Hernia’s generally never heal on their own. Depending on the size of the hernia (the larger the more urgent) and whether or not the bulge can be pushed back into the abdomen (if a loop of intestines can come through, Vs just abdominal fat …it is at risk of getting twisted and dying/strangulating) your vet may recommend an emergency hernia repair or repair it at the time of her spay (recommended to prevent pyometra). Getting the hernia palapated/examined by your vet at Minnie’s vaccine appointments is recommended. Congratulations on your new puppy!

If the bite wounds penetrated her chest and/or abdomen and they were not surgically explored than she could have internal injuries that need to be addressed. If you feel like she is getting worse and dying than you should take her to an emergency clinic in your area right away as they are used to dealing with trauma and critical care patients. Please find an emergency clinic and have her seen right away.

I would advise putting the antibiotic ointment on once or twice daily and putting a T shirt on Precious so that she can’t lick the ointment off (or lick at the wound, which delays healing). You can use a rubber band or hair tie to remove the slack from her waist area if you want. Best of luck to you and Precious!
