Dog's hair has blood and pulls out. What's wrong with his skin?

First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking (if any). If Logan has a bad skin infection, I would suggest having him examined by your veterinarian so that he can receive the most appropriate veterinary care for his condition. He could habe skin mites, a skin infection or allergies. Each condition requires different treatment, which is why it is important to have your vet look at him. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing his allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

From the pictures, it appears Rosie has a severe skin infection that may be caused by a mite infection (mange) or flea allergy. She will need to be treated as soon as possible for this at your local veterinarian's office. Unfortunately, there is no home remedies for mange. Her skin infection (even if it is fleas) will need to be treated with antibiotics at your veterinarian's office. Using a monthly flea preventative will help prevent fleas from reoccurring. Please take her in as soon as possible. She really looks miserable in the pictures .

The rust color to the hair could indicate a yeast infection. Since there was bleeding, which indicates significant trauma to the surface of the skin, I would recommend that Soramaru be examined by the vet. Clipping the hair off of the skin in this area may allow you and the vet to better evaluate the damage to the skin and monitor the progress of healing. Depending on the level of trauma, he may need oral antibiotics or anti-inflammatories.
