My dog has hair loss and swelling. Does she need to see a vet?

However, with anything under the skin that is growing, we become concerned about an infection (abscess formation), a mass of some kind, or a blood accumulation (hematoma), among others. I would recommend Rokko be evaluated by his regular veterinarian to determine the underlying cause for his skin swelling/redness, have any necessary testing done (needle aspirate, culture) and start any treatment that may be needed. Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! From the picture and description, I would suggest having this examined by Mario's veterinarian for further testing and treatment. I would suggest performing a culture on the skin as it does look infected. I would also recommend a course of oral antibiotics and a topical ointment to treat this. It looks as though you are using a plastic cone, which is great! Dogs love scratching at irritated areas. if you are unable to get to the vet right away, I would suggest using a veterinary wound cream such as Zymox topical ointment. I would continue using the cone and ointment until this is completely resolved. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. It is difficult to say what this could be without pictures and knowing the location of this problem. From your description, I would guess that this is a skin infection or skin allergy. I would recommend starting the following: 1. Welactin omega 3 fish oil capsules 2. Duoxo PS Chlorhexidine combination shampoo and bathe twice weekly until resolved 3. Malacetic conditioning spray and apply to affected area twice daily until resolved. If there is no improvement, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Leila in order to figure out what exactly is going on. Leila may also need a course of an oral antibiotic as part of treatment as well. I hope this helps and the skin improves! Oscar needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. That swelling most likely indicates an allergic reaction, a deep skin infection or cellulitis. All of these conditions require treatment. Make sure to protect his eyes from any rubbing by having him wear an Elizabethan collar at all times. Rubbing the eye could make things worse. Have him seen quickly. Best of luck.

Without a photo it would be hard to say. Irritation from rubbing, minor allergies, etc can all be potential causes. If the area becomes bothersome, doesn't heal, changes in size or shape, becomes red, or oozes debris, then it should be checked out by your vet.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Lee! Based on your photo is appears to be either a pyoderma (skin infection) or a hot spot (superficial skin infection). Because it is getting worse quickly, make an appointment tomorrow to get your Vet to look at ti. They will likely prescribe antibiotics, something for the itch, and maybe a topical. Good luck!

Hello. Yes, I think you should take Honey to see your vet for this issue. It is hard for me to tell from the photo if this is a raised bump or a flat bruise but either way I think it should be checked out. It could be nothing but it might be of significance. If it is a flat bruise it could be an ecchymosis that could indicate a low platelet count (clotting disorder). If it is a raised bump it could be a mass/tumor or an abscess/infection. It is too hard to tell from the photo. I don't think it is an emergency but I would try to get her an exam in the next few days. I hope this helps. Best wishes. Dr. Amber
