My dog is giving birth, dark water, no more puppies. Is this normal?

Poor Angel! If she's been having contractions for several hours and has not produced any puppies yet, something is definitely wrong. The puppies may be too large to be born naturally, or one may be stuck in an awkward position in the birth canal. If you suspect there are more puppies that have not been born yet it is best to seek emergency care ASAP, especially if she has gone several hours without producing another puppy. Your vet may be able to examine or X-ray her to see if any more puppies are in the birth canal. Most small breed dogs typically only have 1-2 puppies in a litter normally, but there can be exceptions and if she seems in distress or you suspect a stuck puppy, seeking care ASAP is needed.

Kalu will need to see a vet for treatment and possibly emergency surgery. There can be many causes for not being able to birth additional puppies, such as small hips in the mother, too large puppies, electrolyte disorders, etc.

I am very worried about Bebe. If she hasn't had any puppies for 6 hours, but still has puppies inside, I would definitely recommend to take her to a veterinarian. Sometimes a puppy can be stuck in the birth canal or the mom gets so tired from pushing that her uterus is no longer able to contract to push the puppies out. Both of these situations are dangerous for the puppies and Bebe. If you are seeing clear fluid Soph is likely in stage 2 of labor and you should see a puppy within 2-4 hours. If you think Soph is in active labor and you have seen pushing for more than 30 minutes, or if you see green fluid you should see an emergency vet.
