Puppy reacted to Gentaspray for belly rash. Did it burn her?

She could be having an acute allergic reaction to something such as grass or some type of chemical on the ground. You can try washing her off using a mild cleanser such is Dawn dish soap or oatmeal-based pet shampoo. If it doesn't clear up within 8 to 12 hours then I would recommend having your veterinarian do an exam. In the meantime if you start scratching or itching at it you'll need to stop her as that could cause a secondary bacterial infection.

It sounds like Georgia is having an allergic reaction. You should be giving her the antihistamine every 8 hours and try washing the affected area with an antibacterial hand soap (rinse it well). You can continue to apply to anti-itch cream twice daily (but make sure she is not licking it!), so make her wear an elizabethan collar if you need to. Try this treatment for 3-5 days. If it is not improving or if it is getting worse, then take her in to see her vet. The doctor has stronger medications that are sometimes needed for allergic reactions. I hope this helps!

Hello, and thank you for your question. Poor Skye. My guess is this is a severe allergic reaction as well as secondary bacterial infection of the skin. If ointments and benadryl are not helping, she will require stronger, oral medications, to control the inflammation and treat the infection. This will require a visit to the veterinarian. I would recommend this visit within the next 12-24 hours, given how uncomfortable this looks for Skye. In the meantime, you could try giving Skye a bath with a gentle aloe and oatmeal type of shampoo, just to give her some temporary relief, and hope to wash off any surface allergens that may be irritating her skin. Rinse off the shampoo thoroughly with lukewarm water afterwards, and pat dry (don't rub). I hope this helps, and your little girl is feeling better soon.

Yes, this is fine. It may temporarily help Indy Oliver with the itchiness from the rash, but it's not a long term solution. I'd recommend having him seen by his vet in the morning to have the rash treated. I hope this helps!

Giardia does not typically cause skin problems, so I doubt it is that. However, skin contact irritation, skin infection, ringworm, and mites are all common causes of skin problems in puppies. Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The most important part of treatment of a rash is to stop the self-trauma. I strongly recommend getting an E-collar for Bess. Once you have this on, I would clean the rash with warm water, and then dry it very well. If there is yellow/cream/green debris, or the pimples are very numerous, then antibiotics might be required. I would try the e-collar for a couple days, if it isn't looking better fairly quickly then I suggest going back to your vet to discuss if antiboitics are required. There isn't really anything that you can put on it in the mean-time to help with the itch, as steroid creams might make it worse if there is a bad infection. Once you stop the licking with the E-collar it should start to improve. Best of luck with Bess.

That looks quite uncomfortable. I'm surprised that she isn't super itchy. I don't see any obvious causes in the picture - such areas that make me suspicious of a bacterial or yeast infection. My top guesses be allergies (flea, food, environment, or even a contact allergy such as being allergic to your laundry detergent), with skin parasites or a superficial infection definitely possible. Since it's such a large area, it's going to be hard to apply an ointment - if you have a medicated bath for another dog (one that is for superficial infections) that may help. Wiping the area with witch hazel could calm in down. A mild (1%) hydrocortisone cream could also calm down the area. I would definitely recommend getting her to the vet as soon as possible. They are likely to need to do an exam saying she's in good health before she can be added to the insurance, and she's not going to qualify until her skin is better.
