My dog has a sore on her foot. Is it a tick or something serious?

Hello, sorry to hear about Nina. Foot pads are very sensitive and if could be that she needs to fully heal before she can go back to her normal self. My concern is that she may have something on that bump, like a thorn or splinter that is causing her to have continued pain. I would ensure you don't see any thing of the sort, or have your veterinarian take a look at it so that if there is something there it can be removed. The iodine is a good antimicrobial agent, but it does slow down healing time with repeated use. Best of luck and hope Nina feels better soon.

This does not look like a tick - it is more likely to be a skin cyst, a skin growth or papilloma or tumor, or possibly a wound caused by a grass seed / foxtail. Your vet will be able to identify what exactly it is and recommend treatment if indicated.

There is unlikely to be a tick in the wound but it may have started as a tick bite or spider bite or something else that cause the wound. They can get inflamed and infected and lead to drainage and not healing well. clean the area with warm soap and water and apply neosporin. If it does not improve with 48 hours then i would have a vet check it

There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Unfortunately I cannot see this very clearly. Snce your dog is an older dog, this could be a nasty ulcerating tumor that would need to be examined by your vet, and possibly removed. This could also be a few ticks attached around the lesion. Check where those gray round things are attached to the skin: If you see little legs, then these are ticks, if not, then it is likely a tumor. Ticks can be removed manually with tweezers (grab tick carefully at the bottom closest to the skin and slowly pull up straight. It should then come out without leaving the head behind. If you are not sure, or worry about hurting your dog, take her to a vet for an exam, and removal.

It isn't a tick. It appears to be a small growth or cyst. Since Bonnie seems bothered by it, have her examined by your veterinarian. A fine needle aspirate can be done in the clinic to collect samples for pathology. Once results are returned, you can discuss treatment options with your veterinarian. If she can lick or chew it, place an e-collar (cone) on her until she sees the vet.
