My dog is foaming at the mouth after a worming tablet. Is this normal?

The medication may have a bitter taste. When cats get something in their mouth that they don't want or like, they will drool profusely and foam at the mouth. If she will allow, rinse her mouth with cool water for 10-15 minutes. This may decrease drooling. Try mixing the medication into a bit of food and offering it. Once she eats it, you can feed the remainder of the meal. This may be enough to mask any bad taste.

Nausea and diarrhea can occur secondary to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, parasites, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have Lily evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. At the very least they can start her on medications to make her feel better and check her hydration status. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I suspect that the tablet got stuck in the throat or esophagus but then it got dislodged. As long as Willow is acting normal now and she is not gagging, vomiting or heaving there is no need to take her to your vets right away. However, I would suggest to give her a small drink of water immediately after she takes a tablet to avoid this problem in the future.

If Roxy was just dewormed it could be causing her a bit of nausea and GI upset as the worms die-off, which could be causing the drooling. However, if the drooling continues, worsens, she shows other signs of illness, or she seems in distress/disoriented, bringing her back to the vet for additional examination is best to make sure there isn't something else going on.

Those symptoms can be normal the first day after such an intense treatment with Immiticide and also with Tramadol. The side effects that can be seen with Tramadol are as follows: "Tramadol appears to be well tolerated in dogs. Potentially, it could cause a variety of adverse effects associated with its pharmacologic actions, including: CNS effects (excessive sedation, agitation, anxiety, tremor, dizziness), or GI effects (inappetence, vomiting, constipation to diarrhea)." With that said, I would still opt to get Clementine examined by a vet soon, especially if her gait continues to be affected and if she isn't drinking water and having normal urinations. Her gums should always look pink, and her breathing should be normal (not panting). I hope that your pet Clementine is able to recover well from her rough 1st day of heartworm treatment. It's very common for dogs to have a bit of foam on their tongue or near their mouth if they have been running and playing hard - this happens because they are panting hard during exercise, which dries out their mouth and makes their saliva thicker, causing it to look foamy. As long as Mia is acting normal otherwise, this should not be any cause for concern :)
