My dog had FHO surgery, slipped, now won't bear weight. What to do?

Poor Leo! TPLO surgery requires at least eight to 12 weeks before full recovery, and exercise restriction is a very important part of the recovery. The concern I have is that Leo slipping on the ice may have interrupted the healing process in the surgical area, and that is causing him to be non weight-bearing on that leg. I would take him into the backyard only to go to the bathroom, and get him into the vet on Monday. Likely x-rays will need to be done again to check how the surgical site is healing, and the vet can discuss with you the next steps for him. That may include strict cage rest, or in severe cases another surgery to fix any damage done to the surgical site from the slip. Poor Bayonette! Rest her. No running, jumping, or playing. Confine her to a crate or a small room to limit her movement. Take her out to potty on a leash, and bring her right back in when she's done. Take him out to toilet on a lead only and bring him right back in when he's done. You can try icing his hips with bag of frozen veggies or an ice pack (be sure to wrap the package in a towel to protect his skin) to see if that helps him more comfortable. You can leave this ice pack on for 5-10 minutes at a time. Keep him as quiet as possible, and try to keep Tank from moving around. Take him into the vet first thing in the morning. Definitely take Fonzi into the vet first thing in the morning. When a dog won't put weight on a leg, it's means the leg is very painful and a daily supplement will not fix that. In addition, you cannot give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. He needs a vet to diagnose why he is in pain so it can be treated.
