My dog's eye is irritated. When should I clean it or see a vet?

I agree that her eye does not appear irritated. From the photo, that does not appear green, it looks grayish to me. You may watch it for a few more days. You could use saline and gently flush the eye. If the discoloration continues, have her examined by the veterinarian. I hope this helps.

Optixcare is an eye lube, it won't treat an infection if an infection is present, which is likely the case. you didn't attach a photo to this question so it's hard for me to tell you what it could be, with eyes when in doubt i always recommend a physical vet visit as it must be examined in person. if an infection is present she will need an antibiotic eye drops, this is prescription only anyway so you will need to see a vet for that.

Por Jojo! The eye definitely look irritated with a lot of discharge. You can try benadryl twice a day (see link below) and flush it with eye irrigating solution but I am afraid that she will need some prescription eye drops from a vet. If she isn't improved or worsens within 12-24 hours, I would have your vet look at her. Hi. The white part coming from his lower eye lid that you are seeing is Speck's third eyelid. When the eye is irritated or injured the third eyelid may be more prominent and noticeable. You can gently clean around his eye with a soft cloth and warm water to remove any discharge or any topical allergens. He may have some irritation due to allergies or dust. If he is squinting, holding the eye closed, rubbing it or otherwise acting painful he should be evaluated by his vet. They can look for any foreign body around the eye or may stain the eye to make sure Speck doesn't have a scratch or ulcer. Do not use human OTC eye drops in his eyes.

If Niko is squinting the eye or if there is excessive discharge from the eye he needs to see a vet right away. If he is not squinting, then you can use this ophthalmic gel if you'd like. If it doesn't seem better in a few days then you can get him to the vet for an exam. ( )

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The pictures of Ziggy's eyes are hard to say for sure, but it appears what you are seeing is his third eyelid. It can become visible for a number of reasons, the most common of which in a dog his age include lymphoid hyperplasia (a condition that is self-limiting and rarely requires intervention), ocular foreign body which is usually irritating and makes them rub at it and squint, and a local allergic reaction to something in his environment. Keep watch on this, and if it does start bothering him, gets larger, or fails to subside within a week or two, please have him examined by a veterinarian. Hope this helps!
