Can my dog get ehrlichia from any tick, or only specific kinds?

This can be a tricky situation. First of all, it needs to be determined if Paulina is experiencing recurrence of her initial Ehrlichia infection or if she is becoming reinfected with each outbreak. Unfortunately, this is exceptionally difficult to determine. The best thing you can do is to keep Paulina on a high quality flea and tick preventative (such as Nexgard, Bravecto or K9 Advantix II) regularly since Ehrlichia is a tick-borne disease. You can also take Paulina to her vet for CBC (complete blood cell count) monitoring every 1-3 months so that an outbreak can be treated before it becomes more severe. That is a great question, and one that doesn't really have a crystal clear answer. If she was initially treated during the acute phase, its possible that that bacteria was completely eliminated. It is possible that the antibodies produced by her body may prevent a second infection, however there is no guarantee of this. If a second infection develops, it is more likely to be subclinical, and it may or may not ever progress to being chronic and symptomatic. Having said all of that, I wouldn't be overly stressed. While less common than fever, lameness and lethargy, Ehrlichiosis can cause vomiting and diarrhea, as well as neurologic signs (tremors, changes in pupil size, head tilt and a loss of balance). Regardless of the types of signs seen, Ehrlichiosis is typically treated with doxycycline for 4 weeks and most dogs do quite well. Some additional supportive medications can be necessary to treat any signs of gastrointestinal upset or excessive terming. If Amaia has been diagnosed with Ehrlichiosis, be sure that she has been examined by her vet and ask about starting doxycycline and supportive medications to treat any GI or neurologic signs. Chronic ehrlichiosis can cause severe anemia as well as neurologic issues and shortness of breath which may affect breathing or cause your dog to breathe harder to make up for the lower blood count. Of course, they could be insect bites, tumors (histiocytomas, which can appear overnight), other blood disorders, spider bites, etc. your veterinarian may also want to retest your dog to see whether the ehrlichiosis treatment is working.

I am not sure what you mean by Blue Pearl. Tick borne disease is a general term for diseases transmitted by ticks, of which there are many. Certain diseases are more common in certain parts of the country based on which ticks are present there. Many of these diseases are treatable but some are not necessarily curable. Symptoms can vary in what is seen in the pet and how severe the symptoms are. Did your vet give you a diagnosis as to which organism your pet has? This can typically be determined with blood testing in most instances. Some tick borne diseases are also found in humans, like Lyme disease. But these diseases are not passed between dogs and people, transmission requires being bitten by an infected tick. He would not be showing signs of Ehrlichia after 2 days. It usually takes 1-3 weeks from the time the dog was bitten until the time they show signs. Knoxxx must have something else going on OR he was bitten by a tick before and you didn't notice it. The symptoms you are describing are non-specific signs and could be signs of almost any disease.
