Dog ear polyps returning? How to stop them before they get big?

Hello. Was a biopsy done to confirm that this is an epulis? If yes, then unfortunately, there is nothing short of a more aggressive surgery being done to prevent a reoccurrence. Some of these growths have very deep "fingers" that literally grow down into the roots of the teeth. Removing the affected tooth may help, but unfortunately there are no simple remedies. Poor Hershey. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done or given to prevent the growth of any mass. You can try giving Benadryl twice a day (see link below) and applying Neosporin ointment mixed with cortisone ointment to help try and soothe him and prevent him from rubbing it all the time. Harvey is beautiful! I am sorry to hear about his polyps but it is wonderful you are trying to get him help. Some polyps are simply removed without needing a CT scan, however if he is a complicated case it may be beneficial to be thorough. And be prepared that sometimes, no matter what you do, they recur. If he is a 'repeat offender' and has had a complicated history with polyps, it may be a good idea to have advanced imaging done, like the CT that was suggested. You could also consider asking your vet for a referral to a specialist- depending on who is nearby there may be an internist or a dermatologist who sees many cases like this and can help tailor therapy. Often times skin growths like this one which appears to be a wart like growth do tend to come back even if they have been removed. These usually are nothing to be very worried about but can be a bit unsightly and may grow larger over time. These can be removed surgically or can also be removed by cryotherapy (or cold therapy) which is a less invasive way of removal. I hope this helps and thanks again for posting!

Poor guy. This lump appears to be a huge mass and possible polyp. You will need to get this tested by your vet and seriously consider surgical removal of the mass. If left there this mass has a good chance of causing chronic ear infection, pain, and also can continue to grow. It is best to get this removed, so please consult with your veterinarian to devise a good plan for Little Bit in the near future. I hope that LIttle bit's ear mass gets resolved soon. Hello. This is definitely not a blood blister but a small tumor. I would recommend removal while it is quite small. Since Maddux is still a young dog, the chance of the growth being malignant is slim, but I would also recommend sending the tissue off for histopathology just to make sure. I'm sorry you are dealing with this with Lyna. I have attached a handout below with more information on epulis. https://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=3513 The type of epuis that Lyna had may have been completely removed if the tooth was removed and the socket was cleaned well. If that is the case, then we normally recommend closely monitoring the area. If the tumor recurs, then you have to decide if it is worth removing part of the jaw to remove the tumor. Some tumors grow slowly and we are able to repeatedly remove the tumor without significant growth into the bone and some tumors grow quickly into the bone. So, I would recommend discussing your options with your veterinarian. If you are looking for a second opinion, I would recommend consulting with a veterinary dentist who can evaluate Lyna's x-rays and help you make a decision on the next step. Good luck!
