My dog has ear mites and a swollen ear. Is he okay until morning?

This looks like an aural hematoma, a condition where the space between the skin and the ear cartilage fills with blood. It most commonly occurs secondary to an ear infection. While a veterinarian needs to be involved to treat the hematoma and the underlying cause, it is not necessarily an emergency and I think it would be okay for the dog to wait a couple days if necessary as long as he isn't too uncomfortable. If your neighbor is out of town for more than a couple days you should take the dog to a vet.

Monostat is not a good idea, it's not used in dogs as it doesn't solve ear infections caused by yeast, Yoda will need to get to the vet earlier than Monday, at this point it is urgent and requires to be treated today. by looking at the picture i am pretty sure he has an hear hematoma which means this condition is very painful and he will need either a surgery to remove the blood clots from the ear or a long treatment with steroids in order for this swelling to go down.

Unfortuantely, there isn't anything for you to do at home tonight. The hemotoma is likely more annoying than anything (especially for a young dog). The only suggestion you might try at home would be to place a light bandage (like a large headband) just to keep the ear from flapping around. Make sure it isn't too tight. It's hard to tell from the photo but if there is swelling in the ear flap it is likely a hematoma. This is a pocket of blood from a broken blood vessel inside the ear. Usually this is from shaking the head from an ear infection. While this is not an emergency it is very uncomfortable. I would recommend taking Kaiser to a vet soon to get him some relief. Unfortunately this may be a so-called othematoma, ie a severe bruise of the ear flap. This will need to be drained or possibly fixed surgically by your veterinarian. It is very important that your dog does not shake the ear and make the swelling worse. You can get an e-collar which sort of keeps the ear near the head and does not allow it to flop until you can take Ozzy to the vet.

Unfortunately if he won't let you near his ears you may have to wait until tomorrow when you can get Wrigley in to see your veterinarian. If you can pick up an ear cleaner from a pet store you can try flushing them out between now and tomorrow morning. If he is walking with a head tilt I would be worried that his inner or middle ear may also be affected, if this is truly the case, I wouldn't recommend putting anything more in his ears until you see your vet.
