Dog has diarrhea after kids' illness. Is white penis discharge normal?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The elevated sodium likely has nothing to do with the discharge. The increased sodium while he was sick was likely due to dehydration. It is normal to have a small amount of discharge from the penis in male dogs. Excessive amounts that cause licking or urinary signs is NOT normal and can indicate a prepuce infection or a urinary tract infection. Use mild soap and water to wash the discharge away and see if you can retract the prepuce to see if there is a lot of discharge on his penis. If you see his penis coated in the the discharge that is too much and he should see your Vet. If you do not see any or very little he is likely fine. Good luck!

If Milo is still having diarrhea tomorrow morning, have him seen by a vet. The green discharge may be normal. It's called smegma, and it actually comes from the penile sheath. I hope this helps!

It is normal for male dogs to have a small amount of discharge from the penis. Some dogs do a better job then others in cleaning themselves. It is usually a whitish to yellowish substance. If it is just being noticed occasionally I wouldn’t be concerned, however if it is enough that he is leaving puddles on the floor then he should be evaluated by a veterinarian. Unfortunately smegma is a normal thing for male dogs. Some times there can be an infection or a foreign body in the prepuce (the space between the skin and the penis) that will cause an increase in the discharge. I would recommend that Rudy get checked out by a vet to see if this may be the cause. The vet can also discuss the morning vomiting. Some dogs have bilious vomiting syndrome. There is no specific treatment for this, but some people find that a small meal in the late evening or middle of the night, feeding a meal first thing upon waking in the morning, or antacids will help prevent the vomiting.

Hello! So the discharge from Capone’s eye could be due to an eye infection. Any eye problem needs to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I’d take him into a vet today or tomorrow. As for the discharge from his penis, this may be normal. It could be smegma, which is a discharge that comes from the penile sheath. Just to be safe, have the vet check it out when you bring him in for his eyes. Best of luck.

Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Goose evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Some discharge is quite normal, but if you are noticing it staining his legs then I imagine he may have an infection which is causing more to be produced. I would take him to your vet to be examined so they can decide if he needs some medical treatment.
