Why is my dog having diarrhea and low energy after vaccinations?

It could be a reaction. A dog can have vaccine reactions at any point in life. Reactions usually occur within 24-48 hours after vaccination. For the diarrhea, withhold food for 12-24 hours then feed a bland diet (plain, boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice) in small, frequent amounts until the stool is normal. Transition slowly to the regular diet. If t doesn't resolve, see your veterinarian. In the future, separate the vaccines to determine which vaccine caused the reaction. Your veterinarian can pretreat with an antihistamine to avoid reactions. Call your veterinarian and report the possible reaction.

Tis could be a minor vaccine reaction. I would feed her some chicken and white rice to help settle her tummy. You can also give her Benadryl twice a day. See link below. Hello. If Coco is eating, drinking & feeling very well, then I would not be too concerned. However, I would stop the calcium & vitamin tonics as these can cause an imbalance. The answer to both your questions is yes. Some animals, just like people, are more sore and have more of a reaction to vaccines than others. It would be OK for him to be "down" for a couple days as long as he is eating and drinking. If he was down and not eating/drinking then that would be a more severe reaction and he would need some treatment by your vet to counteract the reaction. Again, just like people, some dogs will wake up more energetic than others! Great questions!

If lethargy is not present, you could try, as a first approach to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. I'm sorry Milli isn't feeling well! It's relatively common for dogs to feel lethargic or sore after vaccines. It usually resolves on its own within 24 hours. If she has any vomiting, diarrhea, facial swelling or hives I would take her to the vet right away. Otherwise, make sure she has access to water but I'd call your vet tomorrow if she's not back to normal by then.

I am very sorry to hear that Bella isn't acting like herself. If the cause of her mood change were due to a vaccine reaction, typically you would see changes in the hours after the shots were administered. In addition, side effects and reactions from these shots do not typically last more than 12-24 hours. My suspicion is that whatever is bothering Bella has nothing to do with the vaccines.
