My Staffy cries jumping on sofa & shakes when she lies down. Why?

Hello, Maggie looks like she is a real cutie. Not wanting to jump is a very clear indication of either back or abdominal pain. Since her BMs are normal, I would guess her back is bothering her a bit. Rest & antiinflammatories are the best cure for this type of thing. You can apply a little warmth to her back for about 10 minutes 2-3 times a day but speak with your veterinarian about some pain medication. She is, after all, getting to be a senior citizen. I would also encourage you t consider x-rays of her abdomen & back just to make sure nothing is being missed. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could have been due to some mild trauma or perhaps excitement and not necessarily from pain. If she does not appear to be in pain and does not have a limp, it would be ok to monitor for now. If she appears painful at any point, I recommend that you check in with your veterinarian. Poor Belle! It sounds like she injured herself when she jumped off the couch, and she could have hurt her back, hips, or back legs. It is concerning she is not moving, and that tells me she is likely in a lot of pain. Because of that, I advise you to take her into a vet today. You do not want her to stay in pain, and unfortunately you cannot give her any human pain medications. Many are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal if given. Having her seen by a vet today is in her best interest. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Honey! She is very cute! Honey sounds very painful. The most common reason for random crying out in pain and trouble sitting is neck or back pain. The dog's also stop jumping up and have trouble doing steps. The most common cause is a muscle strain or sprain or a mineralized disk. I treat neck and back pain with muscle relaxants, pain medications and anti-inflammatories. I recommend having Honey seen by a Vet. They can help figure out where she is painful and prescribe the correct medications. Please do not start human medications as they can interfere with the medications your Vet will want to prescribe. I hope this helps and I wish Honey a speedy recovery!

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Although Mya is still eating, drinking, and having normal bathroom habits, the shaking and lethargy is a concern. Shaking can sometimes be an indication of pain or discomfort in dogs or can be a symptom of certain endocrine diseases. I would recommend having her seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. In this case, it is very hard to say for certain what is going on with Mya without examining her first. A veterinary exam would be a good place to start so she can be evaluated head to tail. Your veterinarian may recommend blood work and/or x-rays be run on Mya as well to help determine a diagnosis. I hope this helps and thanks again for posting!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Lazy! She does sound very painful! She likely has hurt her back, hips or tail. The fact she cries out when you touch her there and when trying to get up indicates back end pain. Some dogs with anal gland issues or Lyme disease can show similar symptoms. I would have her seen today by your Vet before the weekend. They will very likely on physical exam be able to tell where she hurts. There could be an orthopedic issue (such as a fracture or ligament tear) causing discomfort or perhaps abdominal or back pain.
