My puppy's baby tooth looks cracked. Is a new adult tooth coming in?

I think this looks like a baby canine tooth, which would normally be falling out around this age. Usually the adult tooth is already partially growing in, so if you truly feel like this may have been an adult tooth you may want your vet to take a look.

The tooth that is cracked looks like a baby canine tooth. The adult canine tooth will not come in until closer to 6 months of age. The problem is if the pulp cavity of the tooth is open, the broken tooth can be painful and can get infected. I would recommend having your veterinarian examine Ella and determine if anything needs to be done about the tooth now or if we can just wait for her adult tooth to come in and push the baby tooth out. The picture is a little blurry but it does appear to look like a tooth. Makivali should have lost all his puppy teeth by ten months old but some small breed dogs can be late in development. If you don’t know what adult teeth look like vs puppy teeth, I would recommend to have him seen by his veterinarian to know if this is a normal tooth shedding or if this is a broken tooth, tooth root abscess or other pathological process. Many times pets don’t exhibit many signs of dental pain so you can’t base a decision off how he is acting. If it’s a normal puppy tooth, no reason to change his food. The 2 front and center are adult teeth and the ones next to then are baby teeth that are meant to fall out. If she is eating and drinking normally and still playful I would not worry about the injury causing it as this is the right age for it to occur anyways. Her guns look healthy so you are unlikely to notice any problems if it was caused by the fall

Trusty is listed as 4 months old, and in the photo that tooth does look like a baby tooth. These baby teeth often fracture like that then fall out; the root will resorb and the adult toot will grow in. As long as he is eating normally and doesn't seem painful, you don't need to be concerned at this point. It will probably fall out on its own without complication in the next few days. Canine (fang) teeth usually erupt between 5-6 months of age. Since Daisy is not quite 5 months old yet, the chance of her having a fully erupted adult canine tooth is quite slim. The tooth in the picture looks much more like a baby tooth than an impressively large adult canine tooth in a dog her size. With that said, I'd still recommend having your vet perform a full oral exam on Daisy during her next visit. They may also recommend taking dental x-rays to be sure that the full tooth root came out, as retained roots can be problematic. Odds are good that her tooth was already just a little bit loose and this rough playing just sped up the process. It's always better to be safe than sorry!

Well this isn't normal! I'm wondering if you are sure that Hazel did lose her baby incisors. It does happen that the baby teeth don't always fall out, and the adult teeth grow in behind them. This is something that needs to be checked out by a vet, and if she has retained her baby teeth, then they will need to be removed to make room for her adult teeth.
