My pregnant dog was bitten by a centipede. Are her puppies okay?

There is a small chance that the toad could harm the puppies if it was a poisonous toad. However, once ingested, the stomach's acidic environment should breakdown the toad and prevent any issues from occurring.

Cane toads are toxic, they secrete a poison through their skin that can cause severe salivation, shaking, heart arrythmias, vomiting and if they ingest enough even death. I can not find any reports of the toad poison causing dogs to abort if pregnant, though it is possible with any toxin. If she isn't showing any symptoms from licking the toad then I would assume she would be fine. I would recommend rinsing her mouth out for 5 mins with water, regardless if she is showing signs. If she is symptomatic I would take her to the Vet. I would leash walk her when these toads are out to prevent hunting and licking these toxic toads in the future regardless of her pregnancy, I wish you and K the very best! Some discharge can be normal during pregnancy, but the best thing to do is to take her to a vet who deals with canine reproduction for a full exam. I would do a vaginal cytology and/or culture to see if the discharge is normal, and take xrays or do an abdominal ultrasound to see how far along she is and to make sure the feti look normal, and that there is no sign of gas in the uterus which can indicate dead puppies. She should be far enough along to see heartbeats and count a heart rate on the puppies, which is the best indication of puppy health. While the safe use of NexGard in pregnant, breeding or lactating dogs has not been evaluated, I have not yet heard any specifically adverse effect of Nexguard in pregnant dogs. You have a choice: If you are afraid it may affect the puppies, you can go to a PetER and have the vet give her apomorphine to regurgitate the Nexgard, This will only work, if she ingested it within the past two hours. Or you can do nothing and hope all is well.
