How common is dog brucellosis in Washington or Pacific Northwest?

Yes, they will all die from now on. There is no cure for brucellosis once it has been contracted and it is not possible to have live puppies with this disease. If she had a live litter last year then she would have been infected with brucellosis at the next breeding. If I remember correctly from your last post you said she has had two still born litters. I was under the impression they were both recent. Regardless, you will not know if she has brucellosis without testing for it Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Unfortunately quite recent publications (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3372948/) suggested that this disease is spreading to Bosnia and Croatia as well, so treatment of prevention should be given.

The incubation period is from 5 to 12 weeks. Some animals don't show clinical signs for a long time after being infected, but those animals are not contagious to other animals and people. Every year the distribution of disease seems to spread to include new areas. So depending on your region of the country, it is a true threat. It is spread by ticks. So if you live in an area with a high incidence of disease, you will want to vaccinate your dog as well as keeping her on year long flea and tick prevention. I hope this information helps!

Hello. Valley Fever is a fungal infection that typically originated in southwestern United States. Dogs contract it by inhaling spores from the fungus which lives in the soil. There are different prognoses for Valley Fever depending on how severe or advanced the infection is. If it is isolated to the respiratory tract, lungs...the prognosis is good but requires long term treatment ....usually 6-12 months of oral antifungal medications. If the infection has settled in bones , lymph nodes or internal organs require treatment for up to a few years and the prognosis is guarded. The most advanced form involves the brain and/or spinal cord. This can require lifelong treatment. The medications are somewhat expensive and can have side effects. Your veterinarian may periodically want to do bloodwork to make sure the medication is not causing problems such as liver disease. This is not a quick fix disease and it would be important to know how advanced this dog’s infection is so you can plan on the future expenses and treatment plan. Also it would be helpful to see the blood report as reference ranges are different. If Harlow just had routine blood work done and is normal then I wouldn't worry about the results and I would recheck the CBC in 1 month if she is still acting normal. Have a good day!
