What's the brown/black scab on my dog's mouth? Can I use products?

From the picture it actually looks more like a deep skin infection to me. This could be bacterial or fungal, or even a hypersensitivity reaction (less likely). I would recommend that she be examined by your veterinarian soon. They may look at a sample under the microscope to help determine what therapies might be most helpful. Those look like it may be a reaction to something he's come into cointact with. If you use plastic bowls, switch them out for glass, ceramic or stainless steel. If it clears up then plastic allergy is probably the culprit. If he's very itchy, rubbing his face, if he makes the spots start bleeding and/or if they spread, get him in to see your vet as soon as you can as this could be a symptom of a different problem.

Hi there! In looking at the pictures you have submitted of Nixon's lips It looks like he could have a mild skin infection called lipfold dermatitis. This can be either bacterial or yeast. And it does appear to be mild. Other possibilities would be irritation from his canine tooth rubbing or maybe auto immune conditions. Since it does appear mild you can try once daily topical cleaning of the areas with over-the-counter astringent pads. Those type of pads that the store sells for acne. If you don't see any improvement within a week or if it is getting worse I would recommend you take Nixon in to see his vet. They will be able to closely examine him to make sure it isn't something more serious and if they do think it is an infection they can prescribe medication for him. Any topical product you apply will promptly be licked off. This could be localized infection or inflammation. An allergic reaction or mass cannot be ruled out by image alone. Legally, we are prohibited from telling to medicate the spot in the absence of a physical exam. Ideally, Lana should be physically examined by your veterinarian for a firm diagnosis. She may need systemic treatment as opposed to topical. In the meantime, place an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent pawing or rubbing. Keep the area as clean and dry as possible. This looks like a bacterial and possibly yeast in his skin folds from his saliva. This is really common in larger dogs with large lip folds. You could try to use some medicated wipes like miconahex-triz wipes. If it isn't healing, then I would have your vet take a look at it. The scabs and gunk building up indicate that the skin underneath is not healthy, which could be caused by a bacterial or fungal infection, autoimmune disease, among a few other things. i would recommend taking Toby to the vet for examination and possible biopsy or bacterial culture. You can try using a warm wet washcloth to soften the scabs, but I wouldn’t push it if he seems uncomfortable.
