How to help my rescued dog gain weight and address his dental pain?
How lovely of you to take in Buddy! Unfortunately, none of your pictures attached to the post, so I can't see them :-(
I will do my best, however, to answer your questions as best I can! I would talk to your vet to see if they feel a high calorie prescription food would help him gain weight. You could also feed him a high quality dog food such as Royal Canin, Hill's Science diet, Purina ProPlan, or Iams. A high quality dog food would help him gain weight in a healthy way. Also make sure he is up to date on his deworming treatments, as intestinal worms would prevent him from gaining weight. Without seeing a picture of him, I can't tell you his breed :-(
If he doesn't have any teeth, there should be no pain but if he does have rotting teeth remaining, then yes these will be painful to him. Have him seen by a vet to check his mouth. The vet can determine if any remaining teeth need to be removed to make him more comfortable. There's no way to give him more teeth, but a vet can do their best with his remaining teeth to allow him to keep them. I hope this helps!
