My dog has bloody diarrhea, lethargic, anal abscess. Home remedies?

Poor Ember. I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps. Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she refuses to eat the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. This is very concerning. Your aunt's dog could be suffering from a severe gastro-intestinal infection or condition such as hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. This can be life threatening. This dog urgently needs to be seen at a petER tonight, will likely need iv fluids, pain medicine and definitely antibiotics as he is bleeding from his intestine. Please advise your aunt to take Jackie to a petER. I am afraid there is no home remedy.

Poor Luna! She could have an infection (parvo, etc) or a parasite. Since she has bloody stool and is lethargic, she should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat. Your vet can test a stool sample to help diagnose and then prescribe medications to treat the problem. She might also need some fluids to prevent dehydration. Hope she gets better soon!

I am very sorry to hear that your dogs are experiencing these problems, I am sure it is very unsettling for you both. There are a number of potential causes of such clinical signs, including dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, parasite infestation, infection, and ingestion of a toxin or poison. Because you have only noticed these signs over the course of a few days I would continue to monitor them at home. Rest their gastrointestinal tracts by holding back food for a few hours. Then you can continue with a bland and easily digested food of the boiled chicken breast and white rice diet and provide plenty of fresh water. I also find that boiled, mashed skinless sweet potato is helpful for diarrhea. If they do not improve, has profuse vomiting or diarrhea, you notice fresh blood, they seems lethargic, in pain or depressed I would advise a trip to the veterinarian. Heat and temperature changes can certainly cause some lethargic and GI upset. If it's only happened once, a bland meal of boiled chicken and rice may help, however if you continue to see blood in the stool, Zola's abdomen becomes very tender, or she has an increase in symptoms such as extreme lethargy when the temperature cools, vomiting, or more diarrhea, seeking vet care to rule out issues such as pancreatitis and other GI illness are best.

I'm sorry to hear Colonial Rhett is having trouble. He could have an anal gland abscess, colitis, intestinal parasites, or even a tumor causing him to bleed from his rectum. A warm compress and bland diet will not hurt, but I would take him in to your vet to have him examined. If he has an anal gland abscess, he likely needs the area flushed and treated with an antibiotic and pain medication. If he has colitis, he may need a diet change and different antibiotics. Your vet will be able to determine the best course of treatment after checking out the area and possibly doing a fecal test on him.

I wish there was a home remedy for this, but there is not. Tino is very sick, and his symptoms are well beyond home remedies. He needs IV fluids, drugs to stop the vomiting, and possibly antibiotics. You need to get into the car with him, and take him into the closest vet to you now.
