My dog's eyes are bloodshot, won't let me touch her hip. What's wrong?

It looks as Benji is suffering from an eye infection, it is relatively common in dogs. you will need to take him to the vet the first chance you get, the vet will check the eyes, if it is indeed a simple eye infection your vet will prescribe an antibiotic eye drops that will probably solve the problem in no time.

It might be that she has tried to free herself from the blanket by rubbing her head onto it. If after 1-2 hours you don' t see any improvement, then a vet check up is necessary as she might need some medications . I would also keep an eye on her breathing, her appetite and her toilet habits.

Hello there! While probably not an emergency (unless Dodi appears to have discharge or discomfort), I do recommend that she is seen by a vet. Broken blood vessels in the sclera (white part) of the eye are not entirely uncommon in pop-eyed dogs like the Havanese (usually from stress or irritation), however it usually happens in one eye at a time. Dodi is a young dog, and I would not expect any serious conditions, however it is always best to contact a vet when it comes to strange eye issues as if there is a problem, they can get worse quickly. The vet will want to check for conjunctivitis and foreign objects, though I would expect that Dodi would be acting uncomfortable if either of these were the case. Without doing an exam and looking at the eye, it is hard to say what is going on with Spots' eye. If he starts squinting, that is a sign of pain. It's possible there is a wound near the eye that is causing blood to accumulate in the eye. He also could have an ulcer, foreign material in the eye, or even inflammation of the 3rd eyelid. I would recommend you take Spots in to see your vet to see if he needs medication for his eye.

The most common causes of hyphema are: * Injury or trauma to the eye or head * Retinal detachment or dysplasia * Hypertension - high blood pressure * Infection by certain parasites * Vasculitis - leaking blood vessels * Uveitis - inflammation of the front part of the eye * Cancer - uveal neoplasia and lymphoma (most common) * Glaucoma - increased eye pressure Some of these things may be life threatening. Therefore, its diagnosis and proper treatment is very important. I suggest you get Mara to your vet for an exam as soon as possible.

I would recommend taking Princess in for a veterinary exam. Eyes tend to heal quickly or get bad quickly. The one picture looks similar to a scleral hematoma, but the other picture looks like something is going on in the cornea. The cornea can be an emergency situation if there is an ulcer present. The veterinarian will do some diagnostics like an eye stain and prescribe appropriate medications for her. Eye injuries are painful, so she might need pain meds. The black spots on Bambi’s belly look like pigmentation which can happen after there has been skin disease or excessive itching. It also looks like she may have some red areas including the spot near her nipple which could be a bacterial skin infection. Her eyes might be cloudy from cataracts or an age related lens change known as nuclear sclerosis. Unfortunately I think the only way you’ll be able to know what is causing Bambi’s symptoms for certain would be to have an exam with a veterinarian.
