My Jack Russell is bloated with urinary issues. Is it an emergency?

Yes, I would definitely take Kahlua into an ER vet. I would be very concern that if she is trying to urinate and nothing is happening that she may have bladder stones. Those can cause a blockage in the urethra, which is fatal without treatment. It could also be a UTI, but as I said, it's quite concerning that she is trying to urinate with nothing coming out. Please take her into a vet right away.

Hello. "Bloat" is the name typically given to "GDV" or "Gastric Dilated Volvulus" where the stomach fills with gas and flips. This causes the stomach to become distended and hard, dogs will usually collapse, have a hard and tight and big stomach, and often look like they are trying to throw up but can't. This is most common in large breed deep chested dogs. Uncommon in JRTs. Food bloat can occur as well, as can a gas bloat where the stomach doesn't flip. GDVs will die very painful deaths and quickly without surgery, and you should NEVER wait if you think your dog has a GDV. Food bloat can be very painful as well, and can look very similar, however they recover nicely. When in doubt, bring your dog to the vet, but if you are worried about a bloat do not wait. It is possible do some damage to the bladder and urethra during removing a stone, which will result in the leakage. In my opinion, Rollo must have a surgery asap (ideally today) to investigate the leakage. Abnormal kidney results is a common feature of urine leakage into the abdomen and it not necessairly means that Rollo is kidney failure. Please, take Rollo to your local vet (or your emergency service provider) today.

If she appears otherwise healthy and happy, eats and drinks plenty, you can wait until Monday morning. If she appears lethargic, ill or distressed, or if the urine appears very bloody, then she should be seen by a vet ASAP.
