My dog ate cookies and is bloated. What natural ways to help him poop?

I would definitely not add salt as this can cause him to have salt poisoning and subsequent neurological problems. I would suggest adding 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) to his food daily which will add fiber and hopefully allow him to go #2 a bit easier. If he is still having issues then I would have his prostate examined to check if it is enlarged and possible the underlying problem as to why he can't go easily. An enlarged prostate will push up on the colon, making the hole narrower so that poop can't easily pass through. The cure for this is to have him on a laxative through your vet and ultimately getting him neutered can resolve this issue for good. I hope everything works out for your pet Kitty. Take care.

It's definitely a good sign that he is eating and acting normally, so you can try to treat for constipation at home. I would fast him for 24 hours and let him digest the donuts he ate. He may develop dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, etc. If he begins to vomit and become lethargic, then I would take him in to be seen by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate treatments recommendations can be made. Poor guy. I am glad that he was able to have a normal bowel movement. Thanks for the update. From here moving forward it is best to add fiber to his diet daily. You can either purchase a Food that has added fiber in it already, such as Royal Canin Gastrointestinal high fiber or the Hill’s Science diet W/D, both prescription brands. At worst, you may see some mild stomach upset ([vomiting](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/vomiting-1/) and/or [diarrhea](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/diarrhea-1/)). If he hasn't vomited by now, he likely won't vomit at all. Mild upset can usually be[ treated at home](https://www.petcoach.co/article/how-to-treat-your-dogs-upset-stomach) with a short fast followed by a bland diet fed in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. He may also become constipated from all the treats, so if he hasn't pooped in more than 12 hours, try adding some plain canned pumpkin (**NOT pumpkin pie filling**) to his food and increase exercise. Both may stimulate defecation. Make sure he has plenty of fresh water as well. If he doesn't defecate for more than 24 hours, have him physically examined by your veterinarian.

Oh my, that was naughty of him to eat all that! Luckily the Oreos won't contain a lot of chocolate, and if the donut wasn't chocolate either, there wouldn't be a concern about chocolate toxicity. The concern is the sugar content, which can and does cause GI upset. I can give you a home remedy to try if you see any GI upset in the form of vomiting. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.
