A lot of times, it is accompanied by diarrhea. He will likely need an antibiotic to resolve the blood in the stool. The blood coming from his penis is less common. Has there been any blood in his urine? Is he straining to urinate? This can be a sign of a urinary tract infection or bladder stones. Other causes of blood from the urinary system are prostate disease or a mass or irritation on the penis itself. Is there any chance he was exposed to rat poison such as D-con? This will cause a bleeding disorder in the dog. He will need to see his veterinarian to see if these scenarios apply to him and the best course of treatment. I hope this information helps!

Hello, sorry to hear about Tyson. There are a couple of reasons that can cause male dogs to bleed from their penis. Dogs can acquire infections of their prepuce, they can prolapse their urethra, they can have masses on their penis, or they can have paraphimosis. I would recommend having Tyson seen by his veterinarian soon to ensure he is not in pain or in need of medications to treat his condition. In the interim, keep him calm and monitor his bleeding. I've seen this one time, and it was a hunting dog that I suspect had a disease transmitted from a tick. Tick diseases can cause vasculitis, which means inflammation of the small blood vessels. It's not uncommon for the scrotum to be affected, as the blood supply there isn't great. Sometimes we also see it on the tips of the ears. This could be an infectious problem (from a tick bite as mentioned above) or an auto-immune problem. Also can't rule out plain old trauma, like running around in a field with prickly grasses and the like. Get him checked out to rule out serious illness, and to get some relief for what I'm sure is a painful condition.

Possible causes for the bleeding from the penis include bladder stones, infection or inflammation of the bladder or prostate, tumor of the prostate or bladder, wound on the penis or problem with the urethra, and bleeding disorders. Your dog needs a good physical exam to start off- the vet can palpate the prostate and bladder and check the penis for problems. They then may recommend a urine test and an x-ray or ultrasound to check the bladder and prostate. They can then get more information on these episodes you are describing, as well as listen to his heart and lungs to be sure these spells he is having aren't fainting/weakness related to a heart issue. They can also x-ray his stomach and do bloodwork to check for underlying causes for his vomiting. It sounds like he is quite ill so I would get him in to the vet right away.
