Why is my dog biting clothes, barking, and ripping carpets?

Hello, sorry to hear about Bamboo. It sounds like this is a form of destructive behavior which may be associated with a lack of activity or environmental enrichment. Even though he has chew toys, he may need more enhancement such as more frequent walks, play time, or other form of chewing entertainment. Some nipping may be associated with anxiety, especially if this occurs after you have left your house and he is alone. If his behavior does not resolve after increasing his daily activity and providing more enrichment, then he may need to be evaluated by a behaviorist to determine what the next best step is and to rule out separation anxiety. It's likely that Darby is frustrated about not being able to get somewhere that she wants to go - you can help this problem by calling her name and encouraging her to go in a different direction, and rewarding with a treat when she follows you. Biting and mouthing is very normal behavior for a puppy this age - this is how puppies explore the world, and how they instinctively want to play. Make sure that she has a variety of different toys to provide an appropriate outlet for this behavior - long floppy rope or fleece toys for tugging, plush toys for biting and carrying, and smaller toys or balls for chasing and fetching. She should also have lots of different things to lay and chew on, such as bully sticks, rawhide chews, cow or pig ears, and puzzle toys such as a Kong stuffed with peanut butter. She will grow out of this behavior on her own as she gets older, but in the meantime, just redirect her to one of her own toys and use that to play with her instead. If she continues to get overly excited and try to bite, give her something to chew on (such as one of the options I mentioned above) to encourage her to settle down and relax for a while.

Belle is a young dog who, like a human toddler, has more energy than she (or your other dog) care for at the moment. If you want to stop any behavior you need to find a healthy alternative. If they ate their other toys you could try a few new safe "indestructible" toys (that you monitor them with at first to make sure they can't destroy them), chew toys that are designed to be eaten (like pet safe bones), puppy training classes, walks, hikes, dog parks, agility lessons. You need to tire Bella out. Right now it sounds like she doesn't have any toys or anything else to do so she's desperately barking at your other dog who she probably is hoping will play with her. Pets need appropriate things to do or they get bored and find inappropriate things to do. I hope this helps!

I certainly understand and sympathize with your situation. I have one younger dog that is much too high energy. I have a few suggestions for you that have helped me, but I would try to figure out anything that has triggered Grizzley's new behavior. When an 8 year old dog has sudden behavioral changes, it is worth going to your veterinarian for an exam and blood work just to make sure nothing is wrong. And if Grizzley is going to risk hurting himself, be sure to keep him in a crate when he is not supervised. As far as keeping Grizzley occupied, one thing that people think of first is treats that keep them busy for a longer period of time. This does seem to help. You can use long lasting treats like a Kong filled with peanut butter, yogurt, treats, etc and frozen so it takes longer for him to eat. My dog also really like Bully Sticks which I also freeze to make them last a little longer. And keep him mentally and physically busy during meal times. I love using a feeding balls like a Buster Cube or Tricky Treat ball to feed meals in. It keeps my dog busy for at least 5-10 minutes at each meal and requires him to work. And speaking of working. I have found that my dog is the most tired after we have done a good round of training. Even if you have done a basic obedience class, I would consider trying an advanced class, a nose work class, a tricks class, etc. And if taking a class isn't an option right now, work on training at home. When he goes on walks, make him sit at each corner before he crosses the street. It sounds simple, but additional mental stimulation can go a long way. Playing with other dogs is a great outlet for energy. If you haven't tried it yet, look into your local dog park or doggy daycare center. Sending my youngest dog to daycare once a week has made a huge difference. There are a number of interactive dog games and toys available now. Outward Hound makes a number of toys that your dog has to figure out a puzzle of some type before they get a treats. Hello. It sounds like Andie has separation anxiety. This can happen to dogs of any age, but often occurs with younger dogs. There are some good tips on aaha.org under the pet owner section. At home, try and make his routine constant, dogs thrive on routine. When you get home, try and ignore him for 15 minutes so he doesn't just look forward to your return the whole time you are gone. I would also seek advice from a trainer and if those things don't work you can try behavioral mediations. I also like solliquin for anxiety, it's a natural calming aid and can be purchased from your vet. Good luck!

This is just behavior commonly seen with her breed as they are dominant and challenging and require very strict and consistent training. These types of behavior can improve though this does require in person training with the help of a qualified dog trainer. I would encourage you to contact a dog trainer that can work with you and Sally in person to really take care of this behavior. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would assume she is doing this to get his attention to play. Bella is young and needs a lot of exercise and interaction. I would add more walks or play time. Consider enrolling her in doggie daycare a few times per week. Otherwise I would have a leash on her at all times and when she starts this behavior, pull her down, make her sit and remove her from the situation. Consider 5-10 mins in "time out" in another room or crate. Then exercise her. I hope this helps!
