Is a raw wound normal after my dog's bee sting scab fell off?

You are welcome! I'm sorry that Ruby recently suffered from anaphylactic shock, but I'm glad she has recovered. More likely, the wound occurring from her rubbing up against something sharp, hurting herself outside, or self trauma from itching a scratch. The bee sting wouldn't cause such a large scab, but while in shock, if she was struggling to breathe, she could have hurt herself that way if she was rolling around a lot. I'm glad she is better! :-)

I would recommend just leaving this alone and making sure he is not able to lick this area. It does not appear infected to me based on the photo, however if you are noticing redness or swelling around the wound or if there is discharge you should see a veterinarian. I would definitely recommend checking in with your veterinarian when they are open to make sure there is nothing else they would recommend for Reese.

Poor guy. Bite wounds often are left open in small areas to allow the infection to drain out before it then heals over by 2nd intention healing. I would only suggest covering this with a loose t-shirt for now. As long as there are no signs of infection (yellow or purulent discharge with a foul odor) and no large gaping openings (typically >2 cm), then it should be ok to wait until Monday to get him checked again by your vet. Based on the picture I don't see any majorly open wounds there. You can safely flush this area with sterile saline from your local pharmacy to help keep infection at bay since the wounds are slightly open. But again, dog bite woulds can be left often for the first few days to allow draining to occur before things heal up on their own with granulation tissue that the body will make itself. There may have been an infection that caused this and is likely related to the bee sting. This could also be due to some of the skin dying and sloughing off, which can happen with stings. It doesn't look too bad right now, so you can do some treatment at home to see if that helps it heal. If it appears to get worse, or is not getting better after a week of treatment, then it would be best for ChaCha to go to the vet for treatment. It's good to keep it clean and keep it covered for now. You can keep it clean by flushing the foot with cool water for 10 minutes a day. You can also do a footbath with epsom salts for 15 minutes once a day. I hope that helps and ChaCha gets better soon.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Swelling after a bee/wasp sting shouldn't last more than about 24 hours. If this is still swollen then I would be worried about infection/inflammation secondary to the sting, or a problem unrelated to the sting. I would recommend having Kodie seen by your vet and they will do a physical exam, and will check his lymph nodes and likely will want to take some x-rays of that limb. With his age we have to worry about a possible cancer causing the swelling. I would recommend a visit with the vet as soon as possible. Best of luck with Kodie.

It’s so tough to tell from pictures alone, but I don’t see anything alarming. If you see any discharge from the wound, or if it seems to be opening up I’d recheck from the vet. From what I can see, if healing continues normally Olive should be fine.
