Dog ate wall and is vomiting brown fluid. Could it be an obstruction?

Poor girl. Unfortunately my major concern here is that Winnie may have a foreign body. I would highly recommend fasting her for 6hrs and then offer her a small portion of boiled plain chicken or lean ground turkey and white rice and small amounts of non-flavored Pedialyte to keep her hydrated until you can get her seen by your vet. The vet needs to do a complete physical examination and likely will recommend x-rays if a foreign body ingestion is suspected. Best case scenario is that Winnie has a really upset stomach from something she ingested and not a true obstruction. However, the next best thing is to get her seen by your vet as soon as they are open in the morning. I do hope that Winnie feels better soon! Best of luck and take care

It is possible that she has an intestinal obstruction or blockage from eating parts of her blanket. This is usually diagnosed with x-rays of the abdomen, and an intestinal obstruction is a surgical emergency. If he absolutely cannot get her to a veterinarian until 7am, I recommend not feeding her any food in the meantime. She can have access to water, however she may vomit this up. Poor girl. I think both are a possibility here since they produce almost the exact same symptoms. Although you generally see more lethargy, smaller stool sizes and vomiting of both water and food in pets with an obstruction. At any rate Isabella should definitely be seen by your vet for testing (bloodwork + radiographs) and treatment based on what the final diagnosis is. I hope your fur baby is able to feel better soon! It doesn't sound like an obstruction - not impossible, but usually they won't be able to keep their food or water down. So, I think it is less likely. He is probably drinking a lot because of the diarrhea. If you are worried about an obstruction though, you need to get him back to your vet for a follow-up and x-rays. If you want to try something else at home I would suggest this: 1. Give ONE dose of Immodium. They come in 2mg tablets. Give him one tablet. Please, ONE dose only or you will cause other issues. You can use generic - loperamide. 2. No food for 6-8 hours. Nothing. Water is OK. 3. After 6-8 hours then start feeding small amounts of a bland diet every few hours. Bland foods like: scrambled eggs, plain rice, plain pasta, boiled chicken or turkey, human baby foods (meat flavors). No butter, oil or spices on the food. If all if going well do this for a few days and then slowly transition him back to his regular food. 4. Continue the Proviable as directed. If he starts vomiting at any time he needs to see the vet ASAP. Otherwise, try this and see how he responds. Hope this helps. You are right to be concerned about an obstruction in the GI tract. It sounds as though Avalon may have eaten something she shouldn't have since you saw foreign material in the vomitus. The only way to know for sure is to take Avalon to your veterinarian for examination and probably they will recommend x-rays of the abdomen to look for signs of an obstruction. Since she is acting normal now, you can consider withholding food and water for the next 8-10 hours, if there is anymore vomiting during this time she should be seen. If no further vomiting, then start offering a small amount of water, if no vomiting overnight, then offer a small amount of food in the morning. If no further vomiting after several more hours then return to normal feeding routine.

Hello, yes she could have a foreign body or could be sick form something else such as with parasites or with a viral infection. If she continues to have a decreased appetite, develops vomiting again, or becomes even more lethargic then she should be seen by her veterinarian soon. If she ate a different diet she could have an upset stomach as well. Hope she starts to feel better soon and best of luck.

Dogs that have been vomiting and not eating well won't have much stool to produce. However, I am a little concerned that Finley vomited after receiving the antiemetic shot and that he was gagging after the water. Whenever a dog that has received Cerenia continues to be nauseous or has a poor appetite, then it leaves me concerned about a possible GI foreign body or obstruction. If he continues to do this for another 12-24 hours or does not produce a bowel movement in 24 hours, then I would recommend that Finley be re-evaluated for a possible obstruction. The vet may recommend x-rays or an ultrasound to see if this is a possibility.
