My dog ate tuna and mayo. He's sleeping well. Is his tummy okay?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bear. If he is feeling better, it is likely ok for you to continue to monitor him. If he continues to vomit or have accidents though, he will need to see his veterinarian. He likely had the accidents as he was not feeling well earlier this morning. Be sure to offer plenty of water, but if he is otherwise healthy, I would withhold food for about 12 hours. This will rest his GI tract and help to prevent any further vomiting. The tuna itself isn't harmful, so I suspect he vomited mostly because it was an unfamiliar food for him that may have been too rich or salty. Keep an eye on him for any signs of increasing illness, diarrhea, more vomiting, lethargy, refusal to eat his evening meal, anything like that means he needs to be seen by your vet right away.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Bear! He is probably uncomfortable if he keeps getting up and rearranging himself. With the vomiting it makes me think his belly hurts and he is nauseous and that is why he can't rest comfortably or eat. Possible causes of vomiting, not eating and an uncomfortable belly are: pancreatitis, a foreign body that is stuck, inflammation of the stomach or intestines from viral or bacterial infections or from eating something that doesn't agree with him. I recommend that you take Bear to your Vet as soon as you can. Based on their physical exam they may want to do blood work and X-rays of his belly. It is a good that he ate this morning but If he vomits today or seems lethargic than he should be examined by your vet. If he doesn't vomit today than he probably just had an upset stomach from something he ate, he may have ate too fast, or possibly been affected by the heat.

Hello, and thanks for your question about Kitty. Tuna is generally a pretty safe thing for a dog to eat, and I think chances are Kitty will be fine. However, any time a dog gets into something they're not used to, or a fattier than usual meal, it's possible that it could trigger some GI upset. As long as Kitty remains bright and playful with a normal appetite, then she should do just fine and the minimal stool production doesn't worry me. However, if her appetite drops, she seems lethargic, or starts vomiting then I'd have her looked at by the vet in case she is developing pancreatitis. Hope this helps!

You should keep a close eye on him to ensure he doesn’t vomit again. If Bear continues to vomit, develops diarrhea or is not acting quite like himself, he should be seen by his vet as he may require medication and supportive care. In the meantime, I would hold off on giving Bear any food for about 12 hours and then reintroduce his normal diet slowly (about 1/2 his normal serving) I hope this helps and am happy to answer any other questions you may have!

I hate to hear that Blu Bear is sick. Eating 8 doughnuts will do that to him. If he seems to be really miserable or if his gums are dry to the touch, I would advise to take him into the veterinarian tonight. The doctor can give him an injection to stop vomiting and some subcutaneous fluids to dehydrate him. If he seems relatively happy and his gums are nice and moist, offer him only very small amount of water and no food until morning. Feed him boiled chicken and white rice for the next 3 days. If he is still sick tomorrow morning, take him into the vet for treatment. I hope this helps!
