Dog ate Nutraquin Plus capsules whole. Will they dissolve in stomach?

Ideally it has to stay in the capsule as most of them are resistant to oral (saliva) and gastric digestion to be then directly absorbed in the first part of the intestine. If you open the capsule the medication may be useless as ineffective.

At worst, you may see some vomiting and/or diarrhea. These can typically be managed at home with a 24 hour fast followed by a bland diet fed in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Transition slowly to the regular diet afterwards. Symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian include lethargy, persistent stomach upset, loss of appetite or abdominal pain.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would not be too worried about this. The most that would happen would be that Nudge would get an upset stomach. An upset stomach can lead to diarrhea and vomiting which are usually self-limiting (meaning they will resolve on their own within 12-36 hours). If she begins showing any signs of an upset stomach that don't resolve in that time period then you should take her to your vet for treatment. Capsicum (cayenne) is not toxic to dogs. Hello, thank you for your question about Maggie. Based on my research on these chews I do not believe that Maggie will experience any significant side effects. The chews contain natural calming substances such as B vitamins, etc. You are correct in that she may experience some stomach upset. If you do notice that she becomes quite sedate/lethargic or is having difficulty walking I would recommend having her seen by a veterinarian. Hope this helps!

As long as she is getting the full dose, there is no cause for concern. If breaking them open and pouring out the contents works, then so be it. You are not doing anything wrong. You can try Pill Pockets, which can be found in the local Petco or you can hide the capsule in a piece of hot dog.

This is not a toxic dose for a 15 pound dog. That being said, it could still upset his stomach. He could show signs anytime in the next 48 hours. If he starts to seem sick you should take him to your vet ASAP. I suggest you feed him 1/2 a piece of bread that will help coat the tablet and pull it through his GI tract. No other food for 6 hours. Hello. There is very little information on this product in veterinary medicine but based on information on similarly classed drugs, there should be little if any problems & is generally considered to be well tolerated. According to Plumb's Veterinary Formulary, Esomeprazole could potentially cause GI distress ( anorexia, colic, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea & C. diff. infections ) as well as rare hematologic & neurologic disturbances & urinary tract infections . Information on acute toxicity is also limited in veterinary medicine, but the LD50, or amount of this drug needed to kill 50% of rats administered this medication is greater than 4000mg per kg. Nugget consumed the equivalent of 7 mg per kg. So, I would just keep a good watch on Nugget. If she shows any GI signs, they should resolve on their own. If nothing is seen in the next 24 hours, you can stop worrying, but this one pill does not warrant any medical attention at this time. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
