Updated on September 23, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 1 month old | 70 lbs

How much activated charcoal for a 70lb dog that ate 275grams of milk chocolate? I live an hour from town and we don't have a vet on call. I do have charcoal on hand.

The published dose is 1-3 grams/kg of body weight. Mocha weighs about 32 kilograms (kgs). It is best to administer within one hour of ingestion for maximum effect. Doses may be repeated every 6 hours if necessary. Ideally, you should try to contact your veterinarian or a local vet for confirmation. Do not administer if Mocha is showing signs of toxicity (tremors, hyperactivity, vomiting).
The amount ingest may pose a mild to moderate risk of toxicity. Seeking veterinary attention would be the first recommendation and would be strongly recommended if she is symptomatic or becomes symptomatic.
