Why is my cockapoo's second heat delayed? Should I be worried?

This is definitely possible that she is already back in heat. She could also have an infection so be sure to keep an eye out for any abnormal behavior like not eating, lethargy, or vomiting. If you see any abnormal behavior or just want to be sure, I would have your vet take a look at her to ensure she is healthy. I would not breed her during this heat cycle since she just had a litter. She could have traumatized herself by licking. If there is tissue protruding from her vagina, then I worry about a prolapse. Vaginal swelling is itself a sign of estrus/heat even without discharge. If it is the first season it may be that you won't notice any discharge at all. It is actually possible that the estrus is over already and vaginal swelling will go down in the next week time. The mammary chains will also stay larger as compared to before her first cycle. The vulva still looks normal to me, but she should see her veterinarian if you are concerned. Yes, it is possible that Peanut is in heat for the first time, as dogs may not always have obvious bleeding during heat. If she cleans herself very well, she may be licking up any bloody discharge. To be safe, I would keep her away from any intact dogs, and do not allow her out into the yard unsupervised. It's never recommend to breed a dog on their first heat, as she will not be mature enough physically and emotionally to raise puppies.

I would not be overly concerned about the single episode of vomiting/hard stool and would advise a bland diet of chicken and rice for 2-3days to see if the bowel issue resolves. I would howver be concerned about a heat cycle that has persisted for 7weeks+ and would recommend a check up with your vet tomorrow to rule out infection or other medical complications. I would recommend neutering her unless you have a need to breed from her in at the next heat cycle as excessive blood loss could become a significant issue with each cycle

Hi there, and thank you for posting this question. The average heat cycle lasts about 4 weeks, however there is some variation. Typically dogs do not have bloody discharge for more than a week or so during this process. The vulva does remain swollen during this time, and after their first heat cycle it will remain more "mature" in appearance than it was prior.
