Why does my chihuahua have light, mucousy diarrhea with undigested food?

Poor Luna! I can definitely understand being worried - it's always scary to see blood or other abnormalities in your dog's stool. The good news is, if she is eating and drinking normally, active, and not vomiting, it's extremely unlikely that she would have parvo or any other serious illness - puppies with parvo are usually very lethargic, not eating, and vomiting frequently. So it doesn't sound like this is likely to be an issue with Luna :) There are lots of things that could cause a milky substance like this with some traces of blood. Colitis, or irritation in the large intestine, can sometimes cause mucus with streaks or flecks of blood to be seen in the stool. This could also occur due to eating something she shouldn't have, or with a minor intestinal infection of some kind. She could also potentially have an infection in her anal glands, which are two scent glands located on either side of the rectum. If she is acting normal apart from this, it's not likely to be an emergency - but if the problem continues, it would be best to call your regular vet or take Luna in for a recheck exam to make sure that everything is okay.

I would get Dora a deworming treatment. It sounds like she may have roundworms, which would also cause her diarrhea. I recommend Panacur, which is an OTC deworming treatment. I'm not sure if you can get it in India, but it's worth checking. Panacur is a three day course of treatment, and Dora will need another course of treatment two weeks after the first one to kill all the worms. The first treatment kills the adults already present, while the second kills the ones who had not yet hatched at the time of the first deworming treatment. After that ,she will need to be dewormed monthly until she is six months old, then every three months thereafter.

Poor Luna! She could have an infection (parvo, etc) or a parasite. Since she has bloody stool and is lethargic, she should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat. Your vet can test a stool sample to help diagnose and then prescribe medications to treat the problem. She might also need some fluids to prevent dehydration. Hope she gets better soon!

Poor Chaw! Unfortunately it's impossible to know the cause of the diarrhea by looks alone. The diarrhea could be due to many conditions including a change in diet, bacterial over growth, parasites or other even parvovirus. Chaw is very small and I recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian today. Small puppies can become very sick very fast and so need aggressive, early intervention. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check her for parasites and bacterial over growth. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A good diet in general is Royal Canin. It is low residue and highly digestible. Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. This is not likely to be related. I recommend that you have Luna evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. The number one reason for puppies to have diarrhea with mucus around it is intestinal parasites (worms). It is best to take her to the vet for an exam so they can run a fecal test and then treat her accordingly.

I am sorry to hear about Luna, that must be very frustrating! It is possible that something in the Pedigree is not agreeing with her tummy! If she is still energetic, eating normally, there is no vomiting and no blood or mucus in the stool you can try a different food (my favoriate puppy food is Purina Pro Plan, and I recommend dry food) and adding a small amount of fiber by putting a teaspoon of canned pumpkin on the food. A probiotic made for pets such as Forti-flora (available at your vet or online) or Proviable can also be helpful. If Luna is not on a monthly heartworm preventative, it is possible she could have intestinal parasites even if she had her stool checked before (she could have been infected from the environment) so it is worth getting her stool checked again.
