Is Champion Pet Foods still quality after heavy metal lawsuit?

These companies employ veterinary nutritionists and have above industry standards regarding quality ingredients and care to prevent contamination at their facilities. I'm sorry to hear that Kira was recently diagnosed with CKD. While the high protein in the Acana diet would not have caused specific damage to Kira's kidneys, it's possible that it sped up the disease process. One of the biggest challenges with kidney disease in general is that we don't see changes on blood work until 2/3 of the kidney function has been compromised. As a result, it's hard to know exactly how long this issue has been present and how slowly it may have been progressing. I don't have any specific information regarding the Acana lawsuit, but I did see that the suit was dismissed in 2020. Chronic kidney disease is a very common degenerative disease in older dogs. Again, I don't think this diet caused the onset of her kidney issues, but it may have contributed to the speed at which it progressed. I hope that everything goes well for Kira!

The Internet says a lot of things. Petfood is one of those issues that people can have a lot of convictions about. However the question is have those individuals had actual training about pet nutrition. In making choices about pet food, I often look at a history of recalls. Newer pet food companies and boutique brands are more likely to have recall issues because they tend to not have as much quality control in the production of their food. Mistakes do happen and any company can have a recall but that is something to pay very close attention to. The older, more established companies tend to have good protocols in place to catch any errors before their food gets out on the shelves and pets get sick. I believe Nutro does offer a line of pet food that is more holistically-based as well. You should be able to find a lot of variety within the brand and know that it is all high-quality. Most pets who eat Nutro tend to have good coat and stool quality too, this is a good sign. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.

The reason is mainly because the big brands have a lot of money and they invest a lot in advertising, this influences both clients and people working in the veterinary industry but it does not mean that these brands are better. today you can find excellent quality brands such as the ones you mentioned.

In my opinion, Purina is not a terrible food and I include that in my list of food recommendations. If Rex has been doing ok on the food for a while now with no problems, then I would keep him on the same food. I would consider switching only if he begins to have problems with digestion. If you want to change food brands, I also recommend Science Diet, Royal Canin or Natural Balance. I hope this helps! Hi there. Based on the ingredient list for this product, I'm not seeing anything that I would expect to cause either liver disease or cancer in dogs. I have also never heard of any case reports of this happening. So I wouldn't have any particular concerns about this - I think it's likely that the sources you're seeing for this are not credible. :)

As you know there are so many diets out there it's hard for anyone to keep up with all of them. What matters is that the diet is nutritionally balanced for the particular life stage of the pet, their body condition score, and their activity level. Diets vary in content, number of ingredients, energy density, fillers/additives, supplements, vitamins/minerals, etc. Some diets are what are called Limited Ingredient diets and these are for pets that may have food problems with certain foods such as a sensitivity or even an allergy to certain proteins. The grain feed fad appears to be just that. Since many humans now are cutting out grains, the pet food manufacturers have jumped on that as a marketing ploy but no evidence exists that grains in general are a problem for most pets. There are cases where pets do better without grains according to the owners. These diets tend to be higher in price and again, like I said, a marketing ploy. So bottom line, look for a diet that Chloe enjoys eating, is appropriate for an adult small-medium breed dog which fits her activity level, and fits your financial budget. Some nutritionists now believe that switching dog foods and brands occasionally (with a very slow transition to the new diet over a 2 week period) is good for pets since no one diet is appropriate for an individual pet.
