Why does my Cavapoo puppy have soft, mucousy poop after Dentastix?

This is very concerning as it appears to contain blood, mucus and possibly bowel lining. I recommend an oral worm medication, a specialist intestinal or hydrolyzed diet for 6 weeks and a probiotic/fiber supplement such as fortiflora to rebalance the bowel and rule out any parasitic causes. A full health check, blood tests and possibly ultrasound/xray if not responding or any weight loss, vomiting or weakness is noted

Yes this could be definitively due to diet. As a first approach, I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice lethargy or inappetence. She could have a parasite or an infection causing the problem. The best thing would be to have her examined by a vet to determine the exact cause. Your vet can test a stool sample for parasites and then prescribe medications to treat the diarrhea. She may need to a dewormer, antibiotic, or other medications. You could also add a probiotic to her diet and feed a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice for a few days and see if that helps.

Hi there, I wouldn't be worried about one stool like this, but if it worsens or there is any vomiting, disinterest in food, or lethargy, that would warrant an emergency exam for a pup his age. Parvovirus is of serious concern if he is not fully vaccinated. If his stools remain soft but he is otherwise well, I'd recommend calling your regular veterinarian. They may recommend an exam or prescribe probiotics or a diet change if they have already seen Cliff. Puppies his age are generally dewormed every two weeks to eliminate all the life cycles of the most common parasites. I hope this is helpful. Mucus generally means inflammation and this can come from parasites (like worms and giardia), a diet not right for Lucy's body or bacterial over growth. A bland diet for 3 days can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. A probiotic may also be beneficial. I recommend Purina FortiFlora if you can find it. A good diet in general is Royal Canin. It is low residue and highly digestible. Lastly, if the mucus continues after 2 weeks, have Lucy checked for worms and giardia by her veterinarian. I hope this helps.

It is possible that Sophie has a dietary indiscretion to the current diet or treats you are feeding her. I would recommend trying a different meat protein and see if this helps or try a sensitive stomach formula to see if this helps as well. Sometimes switching to a completely different brand helps as well. If the problem persists, I would recommend having a veterinarian test her stool for fecal parasites just to be on the safe side. If he did not get a second deworming treatment he should, even if his fecal analysis came up negative. He should be dewormed each time he gets his vaccinations. Just because worm eggs aren't found in the analysis doesn't mean they aren't there. As far as food is concerned, if you change his diet, do so gradually, offering old and new food in separate bowls at first, then offer 75%-25% old/new food for a few days before moving to 50-50 for a few more days, then 25-75, for a few more days. Feed the highest quality food you can afford, my personal favorites being Science Diet and Royal Canin.
