Are my bottle-fed puppies eating too much milk? They have diarrhea.

Hello, the diarrhea should resolve within 3-5 days if this is just secondary to the milk. If there are older tha. 4 weeks of age, you can dry to wean them off mom and transition them onto puppy food. If the diarrhea is worsening or if the puppies become lethargic and not eating then you should seek immediate veterinary care. Hope this helps and best of luck

I would recommend you go back to the previous diet and things are likely to improve. I would let them eat when mom is available and letting them nurse. Good luck and have a great day!

Hi. Yes they are usually good at controlling the amount. The diarrhea may be normal puppy poop, but if not, i recommend getting a fecal sample in to the veterinarian to be checked for parasites. If he isnt vomiting and is growing well, no need to limit. 7ml though is a bit too much. Lol

It's possible the change in food could be causing digestive upset. The best way to start transitioning to solids is to make a slurry of their regular milk replacer that they've already been on combined with a little bit of the puppy food. This helps make it easier to digest without being too big of a change and may help settle their stomachs. Checking for any parasites with a fecal exam and deworming may also help, however if the vomiting or diarrhea continues, a vet checkup to rule out anything more serious is best.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is likely normal but I would feed less formula at each feeding and increase the frequency or number of feedings. That way he is getting smaller amounts and his stomach won't get so distended. Be sure to contact your Vet for a deworming protocol soon. I also suggest weaning bottle fed puppies sooner due to the constipation or diarrhea affects of formula. Have a good day!

Milo is ridiculously cute!! My main concern is that he start drinking. You can offer water with a little chicken broth in it. (But always make sure there is fresh water too.) Start a probiotic like Purina Fortiflora. Try a bland diet (half plain boiled/canned chicken half plain cooked white rice) for a few days and I expect the diarrhea to improve after 1-3 days. (Then transition back to her regular diet slowly over 3-5 days.) If at ANY time he is lethargic, vomiting, not wanting to eat, or you have other concerns, you need to go to the vet clinic right away to make sure it’s nothing more serious. The guidelines you are following are just that, guidelines. There is no amount that is an exact amount to feed each and every kitten. You will need to adjust accordingly. As long as they are not losing weight you are probably feeding enough. If you want to cut back a bit on the those with diarrhea you can do that and see what happens but if they start to lose weight you will need to increase it again. It may also be the formula that is causing the problem. Watering it down more than the label recommends sometimes helps. The most common cause of diarrhea in young kittens in intestinal parasites. Kittens can be dewormed as early as two weeks of age so you should talk to your vet about doing that. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
