What's the best puppy food for my Pomeranian's specific dietary needs?

I think the hills science diet puppy food is a great diet. If Fiametta is doing well on this food I would continue it. Royal Canin also has great diets and is a great alternative if you wanted to switch to another food. Both of these companies have a lot of research behind their diets!! Remember anytime you switch foods to do it gradually over at least 7-10 days time.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! In the US we recommend Purina, Royal Canin, Hills/Science Diet, or Iams brands. I would choose a puppy formula in small bite size for Kylie. Make sure to mix her old food in with the new food over a couple of days so you don’t upset her tummy. Also, don’t change her food up too often so she can get used to the new diet. Kisses to Kylie!

Grain free is more hype than science... so it is no necessary to start or worry about tag. Raw diets are not safe as dogs are susceptible of bacterial infections such as salmonella and E. coli like we are, and even you can get it from handling the food...not worth the risk to anyone. Purina, royal canin, and science diet have the most research behind their products for both ingredients and safety. Your new puppy will need to be on a small bites puppy forumla due to his size. Any food within those brands is good quality. They do have some natural formulas for you to choose from also

Hello and cute picture! For an 8 week old small breed puppy, I would recommend a small breed puppy food. Royal Canin, Science Diet, Wellness Brand, and Blue Buffalo make good choices, however there are a variety of options out there. I hope you find a food she will really like. The important thing to remember is to have Cali on a puppy food until she is about 9 months to a year old. You can then transition to adult food after that.

Hello, thank you for using Pet Coach. I do agree with your vet that he should be started on dry food. I suggest you use one that is small bites made for EXTRA small breed puppies like this from Royal Canin. ( ) It really should not be getting stuck in his mouth. Is he eating too fast? If so, then you may need to get a special bowl to slow down his eating. ( ) You really could make a DIY slow feeder bowl at home by using an ice cube tray or egg holder tray. Just put one or two kibble in each "hole" which will make him slow down to eat. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

There are so many high quality foods available for dogs that it can be confusing, and marketing becomes the biggest tool that food companies have to try to give their food the "edge." Be aware that this has led to A LOT of general misinformation. I give you this information openly and honestly as a professional who has devoted the last 10+ years to the health and care of pets. Dogs (and wolves for that matter) are omnivores, meaning they have evolved to seek to eat and digest meat AND plant material. In comparison, cats (and big cats such as lions, etc) are obligate carnivores, meaning they absolutely require meat as their primary food source. While some dogs may have sensitivities to diets with grain, many dogs do not. Just like people. And for those who do NOT have a problem with grains, they are a healthy contribution to the diet. That is just a fact. The trend to favoring "grain -free" diets has been pushed by marketing and the trend of fad diets for people that favor a "paleo" or "keto" diet. Many dog food brands and companies, and many specialty boutique brands have worked to push this idea that grains are bad for all dogs, when the science is just not there. And there has been information linking grain free diets to an increase in heart disease. See this article: http://vetnutrition.tufts.edu/2018/06/a-broken-heart-risk-of-heart-disease-in-boutique-or-grain-free-diets-and-exotic-ingredients/ Here is another great article summarizing how assuming "grain free" is better may be a mistake: http://vetnutrition.tufts.edu/2016/06/grain-free-diets-big-on-marketing-small-on-truth/ Here are some good resources to help you make decisions for Mini''s food. http://dels.nas.edu/resources/static-assets/banr/miscellaneous/dog_nutrition_final_fix.pdf http://www.acvn.org/frequently-asked-questions/ Thanks for asking PetCoach !

Hi! She is so gorgeous! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There are many great commercial diets. The most important thing is to get the appropriate diet for their age. Ginger should be on a puppy diet for now given her age. When she turns 1 she should be switched to an adult type diet. There are many brands that are excellent. I personally prefer Purina and Royal canin products but really as long as it is a decent well-balanced diet, it is ok. Good luck!
