Should I bandage my dog's paw cyst to prevent infection outside?

I would take your vets advice and give this a chance to heal, if you find that it is no better within a week or is getting worse I would have it examined again as there could potentially be a source of irritation such as a piece of grass seed.

From your picture it appears that Stamford may have an interdigital cyst. These can occur due to foreign material such as grass seeds as well as allergies or infections. If the wound is only partial thickness and not bleeding it is probably of no advantage to bandage the paw if it is distressing him. I recommend bathing the area 3-4 times daily with saline or betadine, if lame you should contact your vet to discuss pain relief

I would not recommend attempting to place a bandage - it is very easy to make a bandage too tight which could cause more damage. Let the paw air day, and if Carson is limping in the morning or if the paw still seems red or irritated I'd recommend having your vet take a look.

This hole is probably where a small abscess, cyst, or skin infection was located that now has drained. Please don't use alcohol as this burns in open skin and is painful. It is always safe to soak a paw in warm water and epsom salt solution to clean and draw swelling out of any kind of wound, so when you take the sock off in a few hours, try that. If she is not licking the area, you don't need to wrap it. It does look like Dyl may have a cyst in between his toes. He'll likely need a vet to help it heal, as it typically requires antibiotics and potentially steroids as well. You can try to keep it clean and keep him from licking it in the meantime. Good luck!

Clean the wound with warm water and antiseptic soap. Put a bandage on it to keep it clean and dry, and then put a sock over your dog’s paw to protect the bandage. Change the bandage daily, or if it gets dirty.
