Can I vaccinate my cat while it's recovering from a minor wound?

As long as Maki is improving and no longer sick, she can receive vaccinations. However, she needs to be around 6-8 weeks old to receive her first vaccinations. If you are unsure of her age and think she is around 2 months then I would wait 2-3 weeks before commencing vaccines. I'm glad to hear that Kitty is feeling better again! If her vet examines her and says that she appears healthy, there is no reason to delay her vaccine. Vaccinations are effective when given 3-4 weeks apart so that there is appropriate stimulation for both short term (IgM) and long term (IgG) antibody formation.

This will depend on why your kitten is on antibiotics. Usually a pet on antibiotics is ill and since only healthy animals should be vaccinated to ensure that the entire immune system is trained, it is advisable to wait with vaccinations until your kitten is healthy again and off the antibiotics.

Some poor appetite can be considered normal after vaccinations. Vaccines stimulate the immune system to help protect your pet from common diseases they could be exposed to. Vaccines can sometimes cause minor changes in appetite or behavior. Usually I tell clients some decrease in appetite and decreased activity can be normal for 24 hours but for any issues lasting more than 24 hours they should call me ASAP. Some of the major issues (although rare) associated with vaccine reactions are trouble breathing and anaphylactic shock. If you notice any trouble breathing, severe lethargy or swelling of the face or at the vaccine site you should contact your veterinarian as soon as possible. If the poor appetite is still an issue after 24 hours or If any other issues are going on contact your veterinarian ASAP.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I do NOT recommend vaccinating a kitten who seems anything other than healthy. If Brittany has an infection or depressed immune system, she may not be able to mount a proper response to the vaccine so it may not be worth doing. Or worse, it could be more than her immune system can handle at this point and it could make her feel even worse. Save yourself the trouble and wait until Brittany is feeling 100%. Hello, thank you for your question about Havoc. As a general rule most veterinarians do recommend waiting until a pet is fully healthy before giving vaccines. That way we know the per’s immune system can respond to the vaccines fully and appropriately because it is not currently dealing with any other infections. Hope this helps!
