My cat keeps returning to his old home. What can I do to stop him?

You can use an invisible fence, and there are ones specifically for cats. That would help keep your cat in your yard and out of your neighbor's yard. Other than the other things you have suggested, short of monitoring him every time he goes outside, it will be very difficult to keep him out of their yard. I know you aren't willing to make him indoor only, but that is the only way to keep him out of their yard for sure. I would look into an invisible fence for him.

Unfortunately now she has been out it is very difficult to blunt this natural behavior. Providing climbing toys and other distractions can help but it may be easier to keep her 100% indoor or regular free access outdoors. The best thing you can do to cut down on Oliver’s interest in roaming is to neuter him and keep him inside at all times if it is feasible. If you do want him to be an indoor/outdoor cat then I would not worry too much about him missing his meals. He may be hunting while outside and/or being feed by others while he is out. As long as you consistently offer him food at your home he will always come back. I would not recommend leaving his food outside though, as this could cause you to have unwanted visitors, like stray cats and wild animals, at your home. Keep in mind that if you continue to allow Oliver access to the outside he will need certain vaccinations to keep him from contracting other diseases. I hope this helps. He is cute! The only thing you can really do to prevent him from going to your parent's house is to not let him outside. Once he is outside, you really can't stop him from going over there. Your parents can stop feeding him and letting him inside but he still might go over there out of habit.

It is best to rule out medical causes first (bladder stones, crystals in the urine, urinary tract infection) before assuming it is behavioral. I would confine the cats in a room for 1-2 weeks where they can not see the outdoor cats. Use a Feliway diffuser in the room and set one up where they were marking. Get blinds or keep the blinds down so they can not see the cats. You can try to talk to your neighbor but I doubt they will keep them inside. Cleaned the soiled areas with an enzymatic cleaner like Nature's Miracle and Anti-Ichy Poo. Then let the cats back out. If they continue to mark then I would ask your Vet for Prozac. The only way to do this is to try! Some outdoor cats are naturals at living indoors. Others, you will battle behavioral issues from their desire to continue roaming. Spaying and neutering may limit the roaming desire to some degree. There really isn't a set way for this to happen, though.

Unfortunately it’s very difficult to train cats. Unlike dogs, most of them do not have a desire to please their humans. Other than just be extra cautious when leaving the house so that he does not slip through an open door, you can purchase electric fence type devices for the house. Roxzy, would wear a special collar that will give a static correction if he approaches the boundary. Meanwhile you would set up the boundary around the door.
