Is my old cat blind? How can I tell if she's losing her vision?

Poor Bella. It is very hard watching our loved ones get older. I would recommend not making changes in the house. This way Bella can go off memory of where things are like furniture. If you notice she just started having vision issues most animals will adapt to their surroundings with in a few weeks. I think taking her to an opthomologist would be great. Sometimes us general practice doctors don't have the best equipment to look at the eyes. It is possible an eye doctor will have better insit into her vision issues after an exam.

If Socks is bumping into thing he might have lost his sight. I could be due to an eye problem but in old cat that could be cause by an increased blood pressure (sometime secondary to a kidney disease). If possible I would have Socks checked by your veterinarian (physical examination, eye check, blood pressure check and if needed basic bloods and urinary test). What a beautiful girl! It does look like her left eye and pupil are larger than the right. There could be a few reasons for this including increased pressure (glaucoma) or a mass behind the eye that pushes it forward and makes it appear larger. I would strongly recommend an examination by a veterinary ophthalmologist to fully evaluate her eye and her vision to see what can be done for her.

The best way to check for deafness is to snap your fingers behind Alice's head. You must make sure she does not know you are approaching her, that you do not touch any of her hair and that a breeze is not created that may move her fur. If she doesn't react, then you know that she is deaf. If that area on her cornea is new or if the eye shows any inflammation or squinting, you should have it checked out by her veterinarian. Cats can get scars, cornea dysplasia and a few other conditions that may fit your description. When in doubt, have it checked out.
