How long do rabbit ear mites live off-host? Will my bunny get reinfected from its shed?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding rabbits. Cheyletiella is a mite that typically lives on the hairs of rabbits. The mites will travel to the skin surface to feed. If a mite falls off a rabbit, it is able to survive in the bedding for 10 days. During this time, it would be able to attach itself to the hairs of another rabbit. For this reason, it is recommended to change the bedding frequently during a mite infestation. I hope this information helps!

I don't know exactly what the pharmaceutical company's contention is, but in general I find that the mites are usually dead 6-24 hours. The discomfort associated with the infestation can still last for days after the pests are exterminated however. Hope this helps.

The best treatment for mites in Rabbits is Ivermectin drops, you might be able to find them over the counter in pet shops, otherwise at the vet's. regarding the bedding i would recommend throwing away everything you can and washing very well in high temperature everything you cannot.

It is either ringworm (fungus) or some type of parasite (like mites). Just because the others don't have mites does not mean it is not mites. Some mites are not contagious. I really have no idea what diseases are prevalent in rabbits in Malayasia. You can certainly use the topical medicine from your other rabbit to see if it helps. If it doesn't then you will have to try something else.

Rabbits can be treated for mites with ivermectin or revolution. I would however recommend taking Olaf to another vet to get the proper dosing. You do need to clean the cage every day for a least 1-2 weeks to help prevent re contamination from the mites. I hope that helps

I wish I could tell yo I exactly how much it will cost but since cost varies for different areas and different clinics, I would recommend you to call the vet you plan to use and ask them for an estimate for an exam, possible ear cytology if needed, sedation if needed and an ivermectin injection if it is ear mites. They should be able to give you a rough estimate over the phone but I would also ask them to give you a more exact estimate after the exam as sometimes treatment changes after the exam. Finally, if it is too expensive then I would ask if there are any other options that are a little cheaper. The vet may be able to give other options, but not always. I hope this helps!

I would check the product instructions and follow that. I recommend that you have Oreo evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment.
